Do you think its worth a shot removing these IC's from the board completely?

TV wont work without IC5480. I've gone this far so ordered the new IC's, will install and see what happens. I cannot find this board anyway so it's worth a shot.

Well, as for testing for excessive current, set up the power supply with a current limit of 500mA and voltage limit of 9V, and you can feel for hot spots or use freeze spray/canned air.

OK. I guess I should have lifted the output leg of the regulator JUST to make sure first. Is it possible that the regulator would shut down because it does NOT have a load or no?

It shouldn't shut down, but it MAY require the capacitor on the output. Some 78xx find it essential (voltage will drop to low reading), others will work without it (but the output won't be as steady.)

Ok Tom last question on this one until I get the new parts, I'd like to make sure Im getting the 9V output before it starts hitting everything else. I don't see any easy way to do that..

Can you suggest anything.? Also is there a way to measure the current on this line in the few seconds before it shuts down?

From what I can tell, the only other places the 9V goes that I haven't eliminated is the AV jack on the back of board (RCA, Component, etc.), and the side jack which is just RCA. It seems likely this surge may have come thru one of the analog inputs from whatever it was connected to though.

It does the HDMI also but I had isolated that IC already.

Lift the OUTPUT pin and solder a 1uF capacitor between it and ground. Measure output. Then, put your meter in the 10A range (connect red probe to 10A jack) and measure the current going from the output pin to the pad it used to connect to.

                  Ok I will try this.

Racking my brain over this and check D5573 again in circuit and see its reading in both directions. I had removed this first as it showed short in both directions and it tested OK out of circuit. Now it's not showing short but just reading around .700 both ways. Is this a "protect" diode that can be removed for testing?

Sounds like the diode has failed leaky. You can replace it with any ~10V zener diode.

                      I think I've got this A-Board fixed!

The 2 IC's that were causing the short seemed to be the only original problem, the secondary problem that was loading down the 9V was due to me removing this tiny diode D3089 to check it and I accidently re-installed it across an adjacent pad. In the picture where D3707 is there is no actual component on the board.

I was staring at the schematic and something didn't look right and it finally dawned on me..

I replaced the shorted IC5480 and TV comes on.

IC3001 described as Video SW/Audio SW is a 100 pin chip I still have not replaced yet but TV comes on without it for now with 9 and 5V removed from it, and should work with at least HDMI.

I'm super lucky that I noticed that I made that mistake with the diode I may never have found that..

Tom thanks again I appreciate the help, I actually froze this board good this morning and tried the 9V battery again but nothing seemed to happen I have a new power supply on the way though.

Yep at the least all 3 HDMI ports are working with sound, so it appears only the analog input is affected by the other IC. Maybe just component.

I removed that IC last light, it was kind of stubborn and a few pads did come loose. A couple that came all the way off look like they may not be used so Im hopeful to get it working at least 95%.

I shoulda took a break from it for a bit, I wind up getting impatient.

Well, you could keep the TV for yourself and fix a good AVR (AV Receiver, basically home theatre amp) up. The AVR would convert all analog video inputs to HDMI. Or you could invest in an A board because you know everything is working.

It's funny the TV in my living room is a Sanyo with a bad audio IC on main board, so all sound just goes thru my surround sound for that since TV speakers don't work.

That Panasonic A-Board is just not available anywhere right now. I have the other IC anyway Ill take a chance and try to carefully solder it onto the board and test then test the other inputs..

On a side note I think I've been doing too much soldering lately Im beginning to "taste" metal and lately feeling ill. I have not focused on ventillation at all, has anyone else had this issue?

The lead in leaded solder is unlikely to give you lead poisoning, because lead melts at a temperature much higher than solder. However, flux fumes are not pleasant and can be dangerous, they are the main fumes you see. You should ventilate if you do any more than occasional soldering.

I've been using good old 60/40 rosin core leaded solder for years, the fumes from the flux seem to affect some more than others. I have no idea if there will be a long term effect but when I first started ventilation was not considered a requirement. The lead free solder you get now is awful in my opinion, I always stick to what I prefer.

Not all brands use the same flux some seem to get up your nose more than others, one or two leave a lot of messy residue behind. I think I've encountered what you are experiencing a few times, for me it's worse when using hot air and paste flux, gets up my nose and stings eyes.

Glad you got to the bottom of the Pana by the way, for me there is never much value gained from swapping out boards.

But as far as the solder goes yes it got worse using hot air station and flux, and now i've got this metal taste in my mouth that has gotten progressively worse over the last couple weeks whenever I solder. Now that Im paying attention these fumes were going right in my face each time..

I've not been down the BGA route either, have removed a few but that's it. Maybe one day I will get the infra red solder station type stuff, at the moment it's not worth it to me really.

As far as the SMD ic's go now, I used to hate them, now I don't care how many pins they have, the same technique works once you perfect it. I've damaged my share of traces over the years with SMD's, and remade a few with difficulty. For me the best methods of removing these without damage are either hot air soldering equipment or ChipQuik low melt solder, sometimes a combination of both works best for larger chips. I always flux the legs then run fresh solder liberally all round before removal

Panasonic ZT60 plasma tv with strange behavior and 8 blink code
                                            by cloo
I recently got my hands on a 60" Panasonic P60ZT60 plasma tv (european model) that has some strange issues along with an 8 blink code.
It know this tv is getting old but it was once considered one of the best plasmas ever made, and i think it is still holds on to that even by todays standards.

So, long story short. When i first got the tv it had a very bright washed out picture with very raised blacks in all picture modes and i couldn't find the cause in the picture setting menus.
After doing a factory reset this problem was gone and the picture was back to...

Panasonic Plasma repair - TH-P60GT50 - Dead, 3 blink code
                                            by rmacintosh
I aquired this Panasonic 60" plasma around the time my first child was born. It was meant to be a project tv, hoping to fix it chipping away at the repair in my free time. Well that was 2 years ago and i'm really just getting around to making a sincere effort to see if I can ressurect this beast.

The symptoms of the tv ar as follows:
                                            • Plug AC in to back of TV
                                            • After about 2 seconds the relay on the P-sub board will click on and then a fraction of a second later it clicks back off
                                            • The 3 blink code is given by the power LED
                                            • If the TV is unplugged and then
                                            ...

Panasonic TC-P42ST30: Repair for 14 blink code
                                            by LongLiveMyPlasma
My beloved Panasonic TC-P42ST30 has been stricken with the 14 blink code.

I've spent many hours reading through forums, watching YouTube videos and reading the Panasonic plasma troubleshooting guide. But I'm a novice at this, and still need some help to cross the finish line.

I understand the Panasonic troubleshooting guide suggests that the 14 blink code usually means there's a problem with either P-board or A-board. However, I also learned the problem frequently rests with the SN-board.

Using my multi-meter, I was able to confirm the P-11 pin on the...

Panasonic Plasma tc-p55vt50 6 blink error code
                                            by orbit417
                                            Hi All,

Thank you in advance for your advice.

I have a Panasonic Plasma tc-p55vt50 that's about 9 years old and has just recently stopped working :-(

I noticed that when I turn the tv on I hear a click then screen comes on for like half a second then shuts off and the led blinks 6 times.
I did some googling and found several video's on trouble shooting all sorts of blink codes. I finally came across one that showed 6 blink error code but for a different model. It recommended disconnecting the SC board to determine if it was the A board or power...
