    Panasonic TC-P50G10 10 blink code

    I haven't yet taken it apart, but SM says

    Sub 5V SOS
    Main 3.3V SOS
    DTV 9V SOS
    Tuner Power SOS

    Check point A-Board.

    Common faults on this TV? Tom I see you had one before you had worked on but screen wound up being cracked..

    Yeah, my fault on that one.
    I had 6/7 blinks, completely different.

      Re: Panasonic TC-P50G10 10 blink code

      Im a little lost here Im not sure what Im to be checking here, Im getting 5v going to A-Board but that's about it as LED is blinking. I've disconnected buffer boards, SS and SC boards individually and no change.

      There is one large cap on the PS board that has a slight bulge on top but not sure if that's normal.

      Any quick way to t/s this down to a certain board, or is A-Board failure common?

        OK, so if you plug TV into wall and turn the power button on the front or side off (power LED goes dark.)
        Then press it on... what happens?

          It does not respond to power button it just keeps flashing 10 blinks.

          While checking prices on boards I noticed this listing on ebay
          http://www.ebay.com/itm/Panasonic-TC...a#ht_506wt_934

          Appears to be a similar SC board to mine although the SM saying check A-Board.?

            10 blinks probably not SC, but here's how to isolate: disconnect control and power connectors, leave panel connected. If standby lights up then when powered up throws 6 or 7 blinks it's the SC. Repeat with SS. If it throws 8 blinks it's the SS.

              OK Tom I think I did what you asked but to be clear there is a power cable going from the PS board to both SS and SC, and either a ribbon or smaller connector going from A-Board to both SS and SC.

              I disconnected both on each board seperately, and still get 10 blinks.

                Re: Panasonic TC-P50G10 10 blink code

                This means the SC, SS are not short and they are not causing your 10 blink problem.

                Other things to check are the lower driver connectors. Disconnect those white flex ribbons going to the bottom of the plasma panel (to the C board then to the panel.)

                  Did that aswell same result.

                  So does it seems like either P or A board now?

                    Re: Panasonic TC-P50G10 10 blink code

                    Yep. You can look in the A board schematic for 9V, 5V, 3.3V and tuner test point.

                      OK will do thanks.

                      I should also mention the fans never start spinning either..

                        This schematic is intimidating, I found a test point for Sub 5V (most appear to be on bottom of board), but should I expect to see "Main 3.3v, DTV 9v, and tuner power" on schematic or am I just looking for those voltages..

                          How I'd do it is trace down the microcontroller (hint: SYSTEM MPU) on the A board. This is ultimately what generates the SOS blink code. Some pins will be configured to read the supply voltages. They are labelled, you will see them.

                            Alright I will look for that, now on these Panasonics the SOS is the shut down protect signal?

                            Would I have any advantage with a scope at this point? I have been holding out, havent really needed with LCDs but I have been getting more plasmas now. I've never used one before so been trying to make do without it but I hate just swapping boards when Im unsure.

                              If you want to do more than board swapping and basic component repair for both LCD and plasma, a scope is an essential bit of kit, but you need to spend at least $300 to get a decent one, so you must ask yourself whether you will benefit enough from it to justify that cost.

                              For a plasma I would say a scope is essential for anything except main board repair.

                                Would it be Panel MICOM that Im looking for?

                                  Re: Panasonic TC-P50G10 10 blink code

                                  Open PDF, Ctrl+F "System MPU" then wait till you get to the schematic with the GenX8 micom on it. Panel micom deals only with 6,7,8 blinks.

                                  There are pins on the micom which have the 5V, 3.3V etc detect signals, so you'd end up testing those for a HIGH (>2V.) If this is not present, then that is where the fault is.

                                  There's also a TUNER SOS signal which may cause SOS10 but I'm not 100% if that should be high or low.

                                    OK found IC1100 on bottom of board, checked pins 35-38, all show 0v while flashing blink code. Is this something that needs to be checked as soon as plugged in or it shuts down, or should those voltages be there?

                                      Ok I checked them each immediately while plugging in because it was shutting off voltages after protection:

                                      SUB3.3V_SENSE = 2V
                                      MAIN9V_SENSE = 5V
                                      DT9V_SENSE = 0.7V
                                      SUB5V_SENSE = 0.7V

                                      grr just realized those are not all the ones listed Im tired..

                                        Alright

                                        SUB5V = 0.7V
                                        MAIN3.3V = 5V
                                        DTV9V = 0.7V

                                        Didn't located tuner power yet..
