even caps looking ok, could be bad? i thought that since it also dont turn off, that the hair dryer thing was no longer relevant. I will try it.

They can definitely be bad and still look fine.

The fact that it won't turn off is odd. That sounds like either a bad switch or main board issue.

You can use the hair dryer at any time, just don't get it too hot to where you do any damage.

You are saying that the hair dryer did get it to fire right up? (that's a good sign but you may have two issues)

nope. i just got the Hair Dryer (HD). I powered up the monitor to try it out and it keeps turning so. So, i had not yet tried the HD. I will later today. So, if its not powering up, then heating the caps may make it turn on. Likewise, if it keeps turning on, I will try the heat and see if that makes it turn off. After I get back home. Gotta go out now.

its still in standby mode. It has yet to change states without me pressing the switch. That is good. The only issue is that when pressing the switch, it frequently wont change state. Whether its on or off, it usually does not respond to the switch. Despite the main board is getting the 3.3vdc going to zero with each press of the switch.

Finally I got it to turn off, but then the very next push of the switch and it turned on. Then it would not turn off again. A few hours later it did the same. It turned off, then right back on, then it would not turn off. Finally it turned off and stayed off. So, I heated all the electrolytic caps and it would not turn on.
