Re: bad cap cause fuse to blow?
Capacitor meter reads down to 0.1ufd and reads this cap at ol.
Unplugged transformer primary and microwave runs and fuse dont blow.

bad cap cause fuse to blow?
microwave oven Fuse blew, replacement blew too after 1\2 second.
Following common resistance test procedures found on the web the magnetron and transformer are fine.
The big capacitor tests open. The diode attached to it reads mostly open in one direction, although sometimes my dvm will jump down to several meg ohms for a fraction of a second. Testing in other directions reads a constantly changing value of 5xxMeg to 8xxMeg.
Would these cause the fuse to blow?

computer electronic component problem?
I got my current used computer in June 2016. I installed win7 and the dell drivers, and updated the bios. There were issues with this computer and dell had replaced many. After much research and trying different ram, video and wifi cards I got a stable working system in Dec 2016. At this time I wiped HDD, reinstalled win7 and kept it updated with all the required patches. About a month ago I wiped the HDD and reinstalled everything again. I did this because it was getting slow and kwurky. This is the same as with xp. Before win7 I used xp for over 10 years and about once a year I would wipe and...

powering up old unused electrinics equipment
I remember in electronics school in the 1980s we learned that the
best way to damage a very old piece of electronic equipment was to
power it on with full voltage. After a long time with no power caps
go to zero ufd, which will pass the full voltage and burn out other
components. Something like that. Im looking on the internet for
info about this, but I cant find any. Do you know of any?
tks,
pa

5 minutes later and it just turned on.

Re: Benq monitor rarely turns on
Finally I got it to turn off, but then the very next push of the switch and it turned on. Then it would not turn off again. A few hours later it did the same. It turned off, then right back on, then it would not turn off. Finally it turned off and stayed off. So, I heated all the electrolytic caps and it would not turn on.

Re: Benq monitor rarely turns on
nope. i just got the Hair Dryer (HD). I powered up the monitor to try it out and it keeps turning so. So, i had not yet tried the HD. I will later today. So, if its not powering up, then heating the caps may make it turn on. Likewise, if it keeps turning on, I will try the heat and see if that makes it turn off. After I get back home. Gotta go out now.
its still in standby mode. It has yet to change states without me pressing the switch. That is good. The only issue is that when pressing the switch, it frequently wont...

Re: Benq monitor rarely turns on
even caps looking ok, could be bad? i thought that since it also dont turn off, that the hair dryer thing was no longer relevant. I will try it.

Re: Benq monitor rarely turns on
When on, the switch wont turn it off. When off, the switch wont turn it on. The switch sometimes works, after pushing it over and over.
Any more ideas or should i scrap the monitor?

Re: Benq monitor rarely turns on
I see it now. A little almost perfectly round black dot. I dont know what/why its there. Ill try the hair dryer thing shortly, if that is still relevant.

Re: Benq monitor rarely turns on
yellow and red lines? yes that the R it goes to. I cant trace where it goes after that. this is a multi layer board, maybe.
now it wont turn on again.

Re: Benq monitor rarely turns on
its been on for hours in stand by mode. Every few hours I turn it off, then back on. It goes green, then after some seconds goes orange. A few times Ive left it off for over an hour and it again turns on fine.
THEN, just now I turned if off to put it away and its staying orange. It wont turn off. I check the voltage and it goes from 3.3 to zero when i press the switch, but still it stays on.
HELP!

pins white to black:
3.3vdc
no pin
3.3

press pwr switch and she powered up. With green LED, voltages the same, except the last one (black) went from zero to 1.86vdc, when LED went orange all the points were the same, except that last black one again, it went to 3.3
now each and every press of the button, the LED changes. I dont except this to last. Well, maybe until I put the case back together.

Re: Benq monitor rarely turns on
selldoor, "and again after you press the on button." Press and release, or press and hold while testing?
"What happens if instead of using the on button you ground the grey pin on the
connector." Electrically, that's the same thing, right? I did put my probe there the other day and it goes ground when the switch is closed.
"Can you trace from that pin - looks like it is going to go via a resistor? to the
biggish square chip?" I looked both sides of PCB, and I cant tell where it goes....

Re: Benq monitor rarely turns on
oh that. Several of the ICs on bottom side PCB look like that. I think they were made that way. Rough surface.
