Doesnt help much (at all) but there may be a label on one of your heatsink tops that has the "real" board number on - could be FSP264-4H01 but there are other look alikes.

U16 is bad if the part number is 1117-adj. Remeasure the measurement and verify the part number.

        "PIN 1 = 554mV
        PIN 2 = 1.804V
        PIN 3 = 3.28V"
        That looks OK to me, 0.554v + 1.25v = 1.804V

Hi RC are we sure? Have I missed something -I looked at that and it is 1.25 difference.
If you check and just change I will edit this.

Your 100% right the model is..

              FSP264-4H01

There is actually a photo of the model# ("4 -SMPS - MODELs") in my first lot of uploaded pictures I failed to actually mention what it was or about the photo so its my fault there..

Mother In Law told me that the red light was solid and would only ever change when the power would come on, the red light would go out for a few seconds and she things a green power light then comes on. She didnt remember the flashing at all so not sure if thats normal or not.

Is the 4.6v on standby really OK??

It does say 5.2VSB on the M/B

                  edit:nevermind I just realised it used 12v for the ON/OFF not 5v...

BUT in saying that can someone please explain why this is the case??

4.6V instead of 5.2V could indicate bad caps.

It is a bit low (but would normally work) - I think that is what Retiredcaps is testing.

Not sure where you got that idea ON /Off is between 3 and 5v

Pin 1.. (on CON2) is already getting 4.6 and needs the 12v for on/off??

When you disconnect the main board connector and use the jumper
the 4.6v will be cut off ( That voltage signal comes from the Main Board.)

When you connect the 5.2v with the resistor it replaces the 4.6v, hopefully that should switch on other parts of the board which will supply the voltage needed to power the light. So, you need to disconnect the connector to the main board but have the lights and inverters connected to the power supply - set up the jumper then switch on the power.

I thought it did because I was looking at

and it has this on the example power board:

                        Function Inverter power
                        Connector CON4
                        No Symbol Definition
                        1 12V standby on/off
                        2 12V Stand by 5V

                        3 GND Ground
                        4 GND Ground
                        5 GND Ground
                        6 5V 5VDC out
                        7 5V 5VDC out
                        8 5VSB 5V stanby
                        9 STB Standby control
                        10 5V 5VDC out
                        11 5V 5VDC out
                        12 GND Ground
                        13 GND Ground

.....but I can see that it would probably just be pin 8 from the power supply to pin 1 on the main board so im just confusing myself thats all..

Yeah I wasnt sure I did it right but thats exactly what I did .. I guess the problem is with the SMPS, inverter or backlight then..

Should I do a 24v test with the power supply do you think?? (with car lights or similar)?

Also what is the part number on the 4 inverter transformers.

Pin 1 on/off is usually generated/controlled by the main board to signal the PSU to turn on. On is usually > 3V and off is usually 0V.

While possible, I don't ever recall the on/off signal pin being as high as 12V DC.

No its ok I see now, I was just confused beofre.

The part numbers for the transformers are

                              M LT-4014-1 NY0931CC Y (there are 4 of these)
LT-4014-2 NY09310C Y (this is the LAST one, and only ONE of these)

I was reading this page for a while last night.
                              http://www.kellerstudio.de/repairfaq....htm#smpscfbyp
Dried up capacitors - either input or output side.
Symptoms: The main filter capacitor may dry up or open and cause the output to be pulsing at 60 (50) or 120 (100) Hz and all kinds of regulation problems. Measure voltage across main filter capacitor(s). If the reading is low and drops to a much lower value or 0 instantly upon pulling the plug, then one of these capacitors may be open or dried up. If you have an oscilloscope, monitor for ripple (use an isolation transformer!!). Excess ripple under moderate load is an indication of a dried up or open capacitor.
I was actually thinking the first time I heard the 'buzz', "I wonder if thats a 50Hz buzz", now I wonder if that could be what Im hearing as the 'pulsing'?

The big cap is 180uF (it measures to be 160 on my DMM), but IM wondering can I actually check the ESR of such a big cap with my meter or is it just too big??

Thanks again guys I do really appreciate it.

Re: 40" LCD Rank Arena (rebadge?) has standby, V+ seem OK, but wont turn on.

OK - on the inverter board each transformer has 8 legs call the top four (as shown in your pic 3) S1 S2 S3 and you guessed S4.
                                POWER OFF
Meter on ohms 2000 measure S1 to S2 and S3 to S4 on each of the 4 transformers.

There are also some small white fuses - Meter on ohms 20 test them.

Yes the hum could be mains hum. The uf does read a bit low but depends on your meter may not be accurate on big caps - again I dont think ESR can be measured accurately on BIG caps.
Our usual test is a voltage test meter on 600vDC - Carefully as May be 400vDC and hold the test for a few seconds to see if it fluctuates.
Perhaps also switch the meter to ac 600vAC and see what the ac ripple is ( I dont know what is acceptable) but retired caps or budm may chip in)

                                  Hello again.

                                  Transformers listed left to right.

                                  T101 - [S1-S2] - 1.512kΩ
                                  - [S3=S4] - 1.509kΩ

                                  T102 - [S1-S2] - 1.502kΩ
                                  - [S3-S4] - 1.497kΩ

                                  T103 - [S1-S2] - 1.519kΩ
                                  - [S3-S4] - 1.513kΩ

                                  T104 - [S1-S2] - 1.040kΩ
                                  - [S3-S4] - 1.040kΩ

                                  Both fuses are ok (>0.5Ω)

Ill test to see what AC is coming through as soon as I have the inverter board 'clipped' back onto all the tubes I removed the inverter for the photo not realising what a PITA its going to be to get back on..lol..:P

                                      T104 is a different transformer.

Its about 2/3 the size of the other three.

                                      M LT-4014-1 NY0931CC Y (there are 3 [(THREE) NOT 4] of these) (....I said there was 4 before it was a mistake)
LT-4014-2 NY09310C Y (this is the LAST one, and only ONE of these)

Oh OK, in which case they're probably all OK.
