    Philips 42pfl7403h/10 Wont start

    Hi!

My tv stopped working one day and after a lot of googling i bought a new psu board. When i put cable in it isnt completely dead as before but it still wont start, it clicks and the screen flashes quickly and then clicks again and does this loop. When i did this i could feel some smoke from mainboard and it came from a small ic called FDS 8884 and there are 4 of them and one is burned as i can see.

    My question is:
Can it be this fault that caused all of my problems or did the possible broken psu board cause this ic to fail??

Is it worth the job of soldering a new ic and test or should i give up?
All caps looks good as i can see.
Heres pics of mainboard and im sorry for my poor english.

Thanks in advance and i hope you all have a great day (:

Hard to tell - did you not power up and notice anything when you had the original boards
    in?

      Re: Philips 42pfl7403h/10 Wont start

When the old board were mounted it didnt show any lifesign except the red led that blinked 3 times, paused and blinked 3 times again.

Several forums indicated that the most common fault was either psu board or bad caps at psu board. I found a working board and installed it and now it flashes and "restarts".

And as i wrote, the little ic gets very hot and smokes comes from it after a few seconds. I ordered 4new and are goung to try solder new ones in place.
But it looks like this is a battle im not going to win doesnt it

      Thanks for responding so quickly

Maybe someone has worked on one before and help you win the battle.

        Welcome to the forum-
We can sometimes help a lot more if you please post good clear pictures of the whole chassis, and then pictures of each board, front and back (in the same orientation) and close up of connectors, (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) using the manage attachments button, which is found by clicking "go advanced" under quick reply.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

I will try to take better pictures tonight.

          About myself.
39 years old boatbuilder with an interest in electronics but not much knowledge.
I have cheap and simple equipment as soldergun with adjusteble temp and very small tip, a "helping hand" magnifier and such things but not enough knowledge to search for problem but i usually fix problems when i know what or where they are.

I also strongly belive that everthing is "fixable"

On the back of your set there will be a sticker indicating the model number but also the chassis number e.g. LC4.0A. Please tell us the chassis number so a service manual and/or schematics can be located.

Im not sure wich label you mean so i took photo of both.
I also write all numbers below for "copy/paste" option.

One photo shows both the old psu and new one installed and in another youll see a red ring and thats the ic thats causing the smoke and a similar photo of tha backside at same place. There are two "bumps" on it thats caused by the supposed short.
Sorry if photos isnt what you are used to, i only have the camera of an iphone 4s.

Thx for the manual but after read a few pages i havent got a clue whats my next step is. I only know that it almost start and the screen lights up for a very short while (a quick flash) and a click is heard both from the boards and speakers.

Im really grateful for your input so far and im glad for the service manual.

Does this TV have the Ambilight system?

Can you check the 24V on the connectors going to the inverter board?

As long as the power board and everything else is wired up into the chassis testing should be fine, just don't touch any exposed metal as it may be live, and hazardous.

You mean that mainboard doesnt have to be installed, just plug in rest of al cables except those that goes to the mainboard?

No, the main board must be installed too.

Im reading that pdf and 99% i dont understand but i little, little breakthrough i think

The area with the burned ic is dc conversion.
If something in that area are more than 10% off in voltage etc it goes into safemode.
                              Sounds like my problem??
It was written on some page around 170-190

I did not realise the IC was burned.

Actually I remember someone else here with a failed IC like that and 3 or 4 blinks, can't remember if he sorted it out though.

I would try to replace that IC.
