Should I take it? Free Vizio VW46L FHDTV10A

Would cost me about $12 in gas and about 1 hr of driving to go get this TV, sounds like the guy tried to fix bad tab bonding and cracked the LCD Panel or the board because of what he thought was a loose frame around the screen and tried to fix it by squeezing it together. They say it powers on but has just RGB Lines on the left side of the screen, not sure if I want to bother with it. any comments? Thanks!

If it's only 12 bucks, I'd do it.

The worst case you have the boards inside as spares or to sell on eBay or to get capacitors and other components off them if you happen to run out.

Main boards on Ebay go for $60 and up (depending on the TV model). Well worth your $12.

I had one of these and it was bad bonding, tried fixing, but I couldn't and just took it apart.

I'm betting this one is bad bonding too but don't know what the owner cracked trying to fix it, his wife says he squeezed the frame around the screen and cracked something, I think I will get it if they reply back with a pick up address or phone number so I can be sure they are home before I drive there.

This is my thinking. I wouldn't buy it. I have bought sets with bad panels for parts to sell on ebay, but its a pain in the ass. Boxing and mailing, confirmatoin numbers, postage, and time, its a lot. I always punch the model number into ebay to see the going rate for the boards before I buy them. I then undercut the lowest price on ebay for a quick sell. Its almost not worth it anymore though. Oh... and after all that, you have to get rid of the shell of the tv.

don't forget selling on eBay you must bend over backward for the buyer. If the buyer complaint to eBay that your part isn't working or haven't fix their problem, then you have to accept the part as a return and refund their money back. Free shipping is a must if you want a sale on eBay and to be competitive selling on eBay.

...and after receiving it back, you don't know if that board is still good or not.

That is why I always serial number/code the boards I sell so I know that I'm receiving the genuine article.

That is fine, but what if he blew something out on that board?

That's pretty rare with most boards and it's often obvious.

TV is Free, I could use the remote control on another working Vizio I have and just save the boards in case I need them later for one of my own repairs. and recycle the shell. Not sure yet what I will do but I do appreciate all the input. Thanks.

Agreed. Many of these buyers are "board swappers" who read on the internet that replacing a certain board will solve their problem. Of course it costs the buyer nothing to experiment with the seller's board and if they damage it in the process, they can claim it was defective and get their money back. To be fair, there are many sellers that try selling questionable boards that may/maynot work. Of course, for these type of sales the buyer will usually make the seller eat the cost of return shipping.

The stand it's good to have too, sometimes you will find another one without stand and you can use it with that.
I while back I have picked up a broken screen Philips, only for the remote and stand. I was repairing at the same time the same model number without a stand and remote, so came in time for $40.
