Can I jumper it without the resistor? On the side that is plugged into 5VDC I get 5.2VDC, but on the other side of the resistor, I'm getting jack squat. It's a 330 Ohm resistor.

While you are checking the BL_ON signal line.
On you post 24 regarding to the transformers reading, you have indicated that the reading looks like short "they read: 1.073, 1.076, 1.043, .993"
Since you have indicated that the meter is set to 2000 Ohm scale, then the readings are
1.073K, 1.076K, 1.043K, .993 K. so it looks like two of them are more than 3% off.

You really should use the resistor.
You do not need to use the one on the DET_5V any more though.

I still do not know where the 3% rule comes from and I suspect that it really isn't that critical. I have only seen transformers fail open or at least 2~5x resistance.

One is on the cusp (3% would be ~.030, correct?) but the other is more like 4%-ish. Are you thinking that this may be part of the fault?

Could I remove this and see if it fires up?

I'd love to, but it seems that it's draining it a whole lot.

And, I'm using the same resistor from before, I put everything back to the way that it was (save for removing the jumper for INVERTER_ON/OFF). It's a 330 Ohm resistor. Why would it knock the voltage back so much?

And, now that I've done so, the backlight no longer fires up, at all. Which is to be expected.

By the way, this BN44-00289 power supply-inverter board has two pull-up resistors on the board itself, one for the BL_ON (INVERTER ON), and one for the PS_ON signals line.
All you have to do is to disconnect CN802 that goes to the main board (this will force the PS_ON and BL_ON line to go HI, if the board is OK, the backlights should turns on when you plug the TV into the AC outlet.
See page 1 of the SCH.

That's exactly what happened - they fired up, for just a second. Then went off.

Yes, but then the logic board doesn't get power, and I can't perform the factory reset.

So, with that connector disconnected, the CCFLs should stay lit?

Also, I still have that jumper disconnected, if that makes any difference.

That is the wrong schematic, I think. This model is the BN44-00289A, not 289B. The 289B uses a 400V inverter, the 289A works from 13V.

That is how you verify if the power supply-inverter board is good or bad, you do not need the main board for the backlights to be on, if it does not stay on with the CN802 disconnect, then the problem is on the power supply-inverter board.

If you remove the connector to the main board, then check the BL_ON and ps_on pins on the power supply board, IF it does not have pull-up resistor, the voltage readings on those two pins will be 0V.
This SAMSUNG form factor of this type board uses built-in pull-up resistors. You can see them on the 289A on page 1 for the PS_ON.
Page 2 for the INV ON/OFF.

It is not really a rule, but more of a guideline suggested by PlainBill during the 2010 to 2011 era when troubleshooting 2 second to black was very common daily post.

Here is PlainBill explaining the 3%

                                    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...7&postcount=18

The 3% guideline has worked well in the past and found many marginal inverter transformers.

"Either I'm doing it wrong, or it's very, very shorted. Every one of those points appears shorted. But, wouldn't that not allow the TV to operate, at all?

I'd been talking about the inverter transformers, above. Those I finally figured out, and they read: 1.073, 1.076, 1.043, .993"

This statement really gets me "Every one of those points appears shorted." and "they read: 1.073, 1.076, 1.043, .993" Using 2000 Ohms scale without indicating K display as shown on the meter. I remember that well on the Philips TV that the post said the 5V shows dead shorte of 0.5 OHMS, but did not indicated that the meter was on 2K scale which it really mean 0.5K (500 Oms). And after wasting all that times the OP never give any more feedback after I traced out the connections on the board. Very frustrating. I just want to tell then just get the new board and forget about troubleshooting down to component level.
I am getting really frustrating helping people in this badcaps.net troubleshooting problems, tracing out the board and draw up the diagram from poor quality pictures and not much feedback just to have the thread stop half way through.
It may be time for me to move on to some other forum/site. I quit FIXYA a year ago to come here to this forum.

It may be time for me to move on to some other forum/site. I quit FIXYA a year ago to come here to this forum.
Don't quit. Your input here is much appreciated. I don't think I could continue without you.
You will get people like that all across the internet.
Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!
