Ha! It's even easier than cutting the trace...pull one end of JW30!

    Now to find a resistor...

      Okay...connected it up, no change.

If I did it correctly, then yes.

I even tried it both on the main board, and on the power supply board.

Can you measure DET_5V when you do this?

It did not like being connected to 5.3V. It flickered only once this time, before going off. Once I removed it, it flickered on (but shut off, again).

If I had four hands, maybe.

                I'll try it out.

Okay...it reads 5V when connected to 5V (which makes sense).

There shouldn't be anything going to that pin, at all, but it reads a constant .58V, with the disconnect from the power supply.

If I ground it, it drops to zero.

Well, the problem must be on the main board then, as that appears to be the only error signal from the PSU.

Since it cuts off just as the sound starts, I suspect a firmware or EEPROM problem. Unfortunately, I think that would necessitate a new main board.

It plays the entire Samsung startup tune, and plays the shutdown tune when hit press the power button, again.

I'm betting if I hook up a video/audio source, when the backlight shuts off, you'll still hear audio. Should I test that?

                              Oh, I didn't realise this...

She was /kinda/ right. It comes up, the Samsung chime plays, you get a perfect picture for a second...then it shuts off. It repeats this three times.
I though it was cycling on and off, does it make the startup chime a few times?

If so the main board is OK, and the problem is on the PSU...

Nope, it just chimes the once. Only the lights cycle, and only a few times.

When you power down, the shutdown chime sounds.

When they come on there is a perfect picture.

Hmm OK then. Let's look elsewhere...

                                  Datasheet for the CCFL IC:
                                  https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/...3d49dd5ec9.pdf

According to the datasheet, it only shuts off once... and I don't understand why it would flicker.

                                  Does INVERTERON/OFF vary at all?

It comes up and goes down three times. Or...it did. I seem to remember it doing it either four or five times the last time. I could be wrong. I'll have to resolder that jumper wire and try again.

                                    What's INVERTER_ON/OFF?

edit: never mind, I see it on the schematic, now.

                                      Yes! INVERTER_ON/OFF cycles between ~5VDC and ~.05VDC.

                                        Ahah!

This does indicate a main board fault...
Question is why is it doing this?

May I suggest you do the jumper trick, on that pin instead (but you need to cut the wire, as the signal goes from the main board to the power supply), then access the service menu and do a factory reset.

                                        To reset it:
On remote control (any Samsung remote will do):
                                        * From standby, press Info - Menu - Mute - Power (European models)
                                        * From standby, press Mute - 1 - 8 - 2 - Power (US/Canada models)

Then select the reset option, it may be buried under a few menus.

Won't need to cut that wire, either. It also has a jumper.
