    DVR problem

I have a DTVPal DVR that was made by Dish Network. They stopped producing and servicing this unit.
The problem I have is that the picture will intermittently distort like it's receiving a weak signal. After so many of these the unit will lockup, and need to be reset. The signal strength is good, and I don't see anything obvious on the mainboard or power supply board.
I tried heating the boards to see if the problem would get worse, but it didn't. I tried disconnecting the antenna to see if it would do it when just watching a recorded movie, it still does it.
I've not checked to voltages yet.
Anyone know what the problem might be?

    Re: DVR problem

Do you live on a bus route or on a road used by taxis or near a neighbour who is into cb.

I used to have a set with a settopbox and whenever a bus went past it used to go blocky but recovered.

      Re: DVR problem

As I am typing mine just did it again!
Mine started doing this in December and will lock up twice or more DAILY.
Did you ever find a fix for this?
I am not techno savvy, but I am handy and can follow instructions.
ie: replaced a capacitor on a board before (not on the DTVPal) a $2 repair versus a $200 replacement.

Note: Just before this started happening (about a month) I would hear it running while in standby mode. Assuming it was the fan?

It has never been connected to ethernet, or anything other than the antenae cable and the TV to have received any "updates" although it does give me that message occassionally.

I have had this since it was first released and have used it heavily, with minor glitches here and there that have worked themselves out. This one, is the most annoying and the most alarming.

It happens during live TV as well as while watching back recorded shows (so no this is not transmission interference)

My guess it is hard drive related or power/capacitor related (may have/be overheating for fan related issues?)

      Any assistance is appreciated.

        Re: DVR problem

If its not external interference then we need good clear pictures of the board/s inside to get an idea what to test. Intermittant problems are often difficult to solve.

Mine was acting in a very similar manner, I was thinking it might be firmware related as it almost always happened between 5 and 6 pm. My other thought was a read error from the hard drive causing a reboot.

In the last ~3-4 months I have been having some issues.
              1. Problem: It started with random picture disappearing (sound still worked).
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait a few seconds before turning it on again.
              2. Problem: Then it got worse and the TV started to shut down and when turning on the no picture just sound.
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait about 10-20 seconds and turn it on again to solve.

              i have a problem with thinkpad X1 carbon gen 2 "LMQ-1MB 12298-2 48.4LY26.021"
The laptop was turned off because the MOSFET was not transmitting voltage. After checking it turned out that the gate pin on the MOSFET was the problem, because it was producing an inappropriate voltage. and it was discovered that the problem was with the Think engine, so I decided to reprint each pin, and finally the mosfet could work properly. However, there is another problem, even though the voltage has been supplied to the laptop, it still won't turn on, there isn't even an LED indicator. After double...

              Lenovo T580 - LCD Panel problem - error 0288
              by perzyk23
              Good morning,
I have a problem with Lenovo T580, which after error code 0288 suggests a problem with the display. I checked the display and it works on another laptop. I replaced the display cable with a new one. I programmed another BIOS (downloaded from this forum) and I still have the problem of a dead display - there is an image via HDMI, and the system does not detect the built-in LCD at all. The problem appears to be hardware. What can I check to confirm or disprove this? I found many threads on the Internet related to this problem 0288, but without specific solutions. Please advise....
