Just picked up a 46" Mitsubishi LCD TV. When it's set to pickup an over the air signal, the screen is super bright on the left side, darker in the middle and kinda bright on the right side.
When set to DEMO, the left side and middle are dark and the right side is normal. This was with the backlight set to brilliant by the way. I've since turned it to natural.
After 5-10 minutes, these lines appear. Vertical and horizontal. The entire picture will even go white.
At this point, I noticed that the T-CON board was really putting out some heat. I couldn't keep my finger on the cover for more than a few seconds. I powered the set off and let it sit for a while. Then I decided I wanted to get another picture and turned it back on. When it came on, the T-CON board was continuously whining, it sounded very similar to nails on a blackboard. While the board whined, the screen looked like this.
Playing with the ribbons and flexing the screen a little make no difference whatsoever. I'm not ruling out the LCD panel but I see no evidence yet that would tell me it's bad. Right now, I'd say it's the T-CON board but it may be a low voltage input to the T-CON board. I really, really hate spending money on a new board just to find out that wasn't the problem. In fact, the only board I've ever purchased showed up DOA from ShopJimmy. I really hate that.
So, where should I start? I guess I just want to hear some opinions from folks with more experience at this than me. I'll get pics of the back of the TV up in a minute or two. John
