    Vizio M470SV - shuts off

M470sv vizio shuts off, will power on if unplugged but then shuts right off.

Opened the TV.. find pics for the main board and the power board. What to do?

Re: Vizio M470SV - shuts off

Can you turn the TV back on with the remote or any of the buttons on the TV?

If you have a multimeter and know how to use it, start by checking the standby voltages. According to the label at the lower right corner of this picture:
    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...2&d=1352353216
there should be 5.1V on one or more of the pins of that connector next to it. With the TV plugged in, check to see if there is 5.1V and which pins. That's the 5.1VSB.

Re: Vizio M470SV - shuts off

I kept trying to start the TV.. Suddenly started. Ran for a day or so and then shut off..
Powered if unplugged but shuts right off after 3 seconds. I let the TV sit for an hour or so and then restarted the TV. Stated again. Will get the meter and test for voltage.

        Will post the results soon.

U really think it is the EEPROM or the Power board?

If it's intermittent it's unlikely to be the EEPROM.

I measured the standby voltages... they are 5.1 - 5.25. I went and got a surge protector of Philips of 1000 Jules. The TV has been runing since! Any idea?

Yep the eeprom MIGHT be ok since it's intermittent, could be the main board has bad BGA connections, need to troubleshoot more and see if the supplies are all coming up, lots and lots of reports of the eeprom, a cousin to that set vizio will send a jig to update the eeprom for the same symptom--

Was this issue ever sorted out? I bought one of these TVs at a garage sale with the idea of fixing it.

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
                        by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                        Assuming...

                        Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

                        Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...

Vizio SmartCast TV software bug that looks like hardware
                        by howardc64
Bug looks like hardware so thought I posted it here. Exact same behavior on 2 different model 4K Vizio TVs running their SmartCast smarttv software. After launching youtube app, press vizio button on remote to return to the smarttv menu, once in awhile, a column of bad pixels will show for few seconds on the left hand side.

It seems the vizio software is reinitializing hardware when returning to the smarttv menu. In general, SmartCast software isn't very good. Also will randomly (relatively infrequent) get no network connection when on wifi and require reboot....
