Re: Sanyo DP42848 42" LCD TV: sound, but no picture

So, it turns out there were actually 2 failed lamps. 5th from the top and 5th from the bottom. I ordered 2 used lamps from an eBay seller for $20 shipped for both, as new lamps were too costly for me at around $25 each. The replacement lamps were from a different TV but were 99% correct size. They were just a tiny bit thinner, and I noticed they were ever so slightly loose in the sockets. So I used a soldering iron to solder them into place to avoid any issues with loose connection. To my surprise, the metal coating on the end of the lamps began to melt away! I was able to still get them soldered nice and good without melting away too much of the metal. Then, upon reassembly I had forgotten how some of the frame pieces went together and I had to install and remove the panel about 3 times until I finally got it right. At this point I was certain I damaged the panel just from moving it around so many times. I thought to myself, it would be a miracle if this TV still worked. Well, when I finally got the panel reassembled and the connections hooked back up, I powered it on and to my surprise IT WORKS!!! That's a 42" TV rescued from the dumpster and only $20 of parts put into it! Been using it for a week now and no issues at all. Hopefully it still has some years of life left in the other lamps! Take care!

Well I finally got around to taking the panel apart. I found the source of the problem As expected, there is a burned out CCFL. It may not be easy to tell in the attached photo, but it is the 5th one up from the bottom. I will order one from CCFL warehouse and see if I can get this thing back together without damaging the panel. Wish me luck!

    Hi,

I have the same model TV and same issue. I have not yet opened up the panel but I am getting ready to do it once I find a folding table to set everything up on. Here is the datasheet for the inverter controller: https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/...2e0aa1635e.pdf

I will let you know if I find anything interesting inside the panel

I know it's been a couple of years, but could you point me to the data sheet or describe which cap/pin you shorted? I want too get mine to stay lit long enough for my eyes to adjust and count how many bulbs are out before I pull the panel off the front.

If anybody has some spare parts for a DP42848, I am in need of a PWB Control board (board with power, channel and volume button and Remote sensor) for a Sanyo DP42848. The part number is 1AA4B10N2020A.
    Thanks

if you have a repair shop near by or one of the other guys here are anywhere near you, you may be able to get some a bit cheaper, but either way, it is definitely worth fixing!

lol yeah I figured that out last night. I then found the datasheet for the IC on the primary inverter and shorted out the pin for the timing capacitor (pin 1) to ground. Probably not the smartest thing to do since i'm missing the resistance from those two lamps but so far for "testing" purposes it's working. It's actually a pretty decent tv and i'm only $30 into it so far so now that i've ran it for over an hour to verify that it works and only the two lamps were burnt out i'm thinking that it may be worth paying the $50 to replace the lamps and re-enable the protection on the inverter.

hey rboyer, you are going to have to change out those globes or else you will have an unbalanced load and it will just shut down.

I have the same exact set on the bench right now. It has two burnt out CCFL bulbs in it. I figured I would hijack an already dead thread since it pertains to the same thing that I am dealing with. What I was wondering was if it was possible to just eliminate two bulbs (top and bottom) and run the tv like that? If I get the time i'll probably end up throwing it back together and trying it anyway but I figured i'd put the question out there to save me some time.

I have a dp42848 as well and have similar issue (ie. the 2 second black out) however after some fiddling I was checking the voltage across the wires to the bulbs on the inverter board (the pink on and the white one) When held there the tv work perfectly. However when I removed my leads the screen went black again. Any idea what it would be on the inverter board?

Got it all back together- comes on for a second with a damaged LCD, and then goes out. Screen isn't visibly cracked when turned off, and I was always being REALLY careful with it during removal and after I got it out, but to no avail. I'm really bummed now, I really thought this was gonna work. I'm just going to part it out on ebay, I guess. Or if any of you who have been so helpful need any of the parts, just let me know, they're yours!

Parts are in, 950mm bulb was the right size but needed some solder and hot glue. In the process of swapping the bulb & board, I broke another bulb, though: for the stupidest reason, too: I mistakenly leaned on it trying to get better leverage on the broken bulb. I moved the bottom-most bulb up so there won't be a dark band in the middle; I'll have to see if the dark band at the bottom bothers me enough to go through this again. I broke roughly half the little plastic loops, but a little hot glue fixed them.

I was unfortunately rather pessimistic about fixing this TV and didn't documenting disassemble like I should have, so reassembly is proving challenging. No idea what screws go where at this point, but it's coming along. Hopefully I'll have an update in a few hours.

Just ordered the parts. And I'm going to turn down the brightness of all my TVs now.

Glad to see you got yours fixed, johnboy! I ordered 950s, but I'm going to have to do the solder trick to build up the diameter of the ends, looks like.

Just hope I can get it all back together, lol

I knew you would find it.
Any time I go to throw out an lcd with a busted screen or
other times I have to strip them to make room...I keep all of the ccfl's
    for this situation.

Remember to turn down the backlights.
For most Sanyo tvs its called Energy Saver in the on screen menu- turn it to high...if you want the rest of the ccfls to last.

Surprise surprise, a blown cap. (and a burnt out bulb)

What kind of bulb is this? It measures appx 3x950mm, but I can't find any markings.
You won't find any like that for sale new. You will have to buy the ones like what ccflwearhouse sells and solder them in. 3.4mm X 950mm though I used 940mm and bridged the gap with solder. Check out my profile for pics.

That was exactly the same spot that one of my bulbs went out. New bulbs are ~$25 a piece, not really cost effective to replace them all with new ones. Instead, I called a guy advertising that he buys broken LCDs on Craigslist. He sold me three used ones for $25. A word of caution, those plastic support clips WILL break when you remove the bad bulbs. Be ready to replace them.

You have badly burnt out ballast cap. Good price for the replacement board. Check http://www.ccflwarehouse.com/ for the replacement lamp.

    - when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds
    - it keeps rebooting
    - without ribbon cable between the two panel boards, it does not reboot but I have no picture
    - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)
    - when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.

Samsung UN60EH6000F Black Screen, Backlight and Sound Good. Power Cycle Returns Picture
    by Mgiffune
I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and

Samsung UE60KU6079 backlight okay mainboard responsive, no picture, no sound
    by Ierwin
    Hello everyone,
Ive got a UE60KU6079 on the workbench that is giving me some headaches trying to troubleshoot.
The previous owner stated that there had been white dots on the screen which from the description sounded like some lenses fell of the backlight LEDs.
He had opened the TV from the back, trying to get to the backlight, supposedly gave up, reassebled everything and gave the TV to me.
I expected the worst like ripped COF cables or a cracked panel but could not find anything like that yet.
Anyway I still fully expect that there has been something seriously damaged...

Samsung UN70NU6900F no picture and no sound
    by jchang
    Hi all

I was just given a Samsung TV with the issue. I read various threads and videos and attempted the ribbon tape method to gain an image, but no luck.

    Symptom:
    No picture no sound.
When I plug in the power cord, Backlight LED turns on for a half second and then turns off. The red LED next to the power button located center bottom flashes 2 or 3 times. When the power button is pressed after, it does the same thing.
    No sound at all.

    What I tried:
    1. I tried unplugging the left or right ribbon...
