  • Re: resale value nosedived .

It's a crazy world with the plasmas. I stopped dealing with them because of it. I actually only take LCD sets from the recycling place I deal with. It's funny because the guy actually asked me again about taking plasma tvs, I guess they get backed up with them pretty bad.

Friends like that aren't allowed to be my friends anymore. I have zero tolerance for people who think that everything in life is free. The funny part is that I have given stuff away before and cut extremely cheap deals for friends. People who know me know enough to just take whatever price I give them because i'm usually honest and straightforward when it comes to that. I've actually been hoarding some lcd tvs with no digital tuners and stuff to make a package for charity. They can still be used with digital converter boxes or on satellite and make good...

I found a place that sells these universal remotes for $6 each. They're made by GE and I have yet to run across a tv so far which they don't work with. By that I mean that i've always been able to get every single remote function to work. I just write the code down on two labels then place one behind the battery cover and one on the back of the tv. For me it cuts down on having to screw around with waiting for a remote. I do usually get a few odd looks from people when I fill a shopping basket with remotes. I try to not sell anything with bad tab bonding...

Well in the last 24 hours I have sold an older 42" Insignia for $200, a 19 inch Sansui for $50, and I have someone who wants to come over and take either a 32" Emerson or Dynex for $120. Last week I sold a 42" Vizio for $200 and a 32" LG for $130. Almost all of those sales were thanks to Facebook. I guarantee you that Facebook will increase sales with almost anything these days just because everyone is all about social networking now. I bet almost every person you know has the Facebook app on their phone but very few have a Craigslist...

When I list a part I just find the same exact listing which sold already and click the "sell similar item" button. I then basically just copy/paste the title into the description and that's usually it. For the condition I paste in "good working" and then input my price. I do free shipping and it keeps it already pre-selected when I list something now so I just submit and move on. I like that ka-ching too lol. It lets me know that I have a sale before I even pull my phone out.

I just use the browser on my pc to list on eBay. I have a decent girl who does the pictures. She takes a bin full of tv parts for a single model, uses colored paper and numbers each piece of paper individually and includes the model number on the picture and then emails them to me right from her cell phone. She will do one email for each model tv and that way when I look in my inbox I just start listing them by model and there's no screwing it up because of the colored tag in the picture with each model number on it. From there I just sit at the computer...

Also I should mention that the "friend of a friend" method works too for selling. I'll tell my friends to get someone to buy a 42" tv for $200 and i'll give them no less than $20 (maybe more if the initial purchase and repair cost for me was low). I just drop one tv off at someone's house and let them sell it in their spare time to make extra money. It eliminates me from having to waste my time selling it when I could be putting that time to better use by fixing something. It doesn't guarantee that you'll sell it overnight but when one...

I can almost guarantee you that you will have good luck with Facebook. I used to buy broken tvs from Craigslist in the past too. I didn't rely on posting a wanted ad though, I would just look for people posting them and send a mass email out to everyone with a flat offer and whoever replied I would deal with. You're right though, i've seen some 42 inch tvs with cracked screens listed at $150 firm lately and that's just absolutely insane! On average i'm paying between $5-$10 per tv but the catch is that I usually have to take all of them. I also subscribe...

For some reason I recently had a spurt of older 32" Polaroid sets come in. Mostly easy repairs and I like them because you don't have to lay the tv down to fix a board issue lol. I was getting an easy $110-120 out of them which I thought was pretty good. When I get a decent name brand like a Samsung I usually ask $135 and get it with no problems. It's weird too because i've also gotten $100 out of older 26" Vizios too. Lately anything 42" that's 1080p i'm getting around $200. I don't even deal with plasmas because with the amount of lcd...

  • Re: resale value nosedived .

I know this thread is a little bit old but I thought i'd share my input. I noticed a decline in demand around April in my area. I buy from a recycler but I buy in a large enough quantity that I actually run across some decent stuff from time to time. Sometimes a working one even slips through the cracks and into my lap. It seems like i'm actually starting to do better with having my parts inventory rolling on eBay. Even with all of the headaches between having to test parts and dealing with people who buy just to troubleshoot and return. I had to come...

  • Re: Vizio VX42L Progress?

I have one of these which I just recently acquired and put up on the bench yesterday. It's funny because i've repaired enough Vizio tvs that i'm in the habit of going straight to the voltage regulators on the mainboard as soon as I get one open and inspect for visible damage. Turns out I missed one very important thing last night. My mainboard was getting 5 volts and all of my regulators were working properly but I neglected to check my power board for my other voltages until later. Turns out it wasn't putting out 12 or 24 volts! I had IC601 blown out on...

  • Re: Cleaning Motherboards - ATTN SMOKERS!!

I've had to tear down and clean plenty of Megatouch and JVL games before. Those things sit in a bar for 24 hours a day and some of them get hammered so hard with cigarette smoke that you literally have to take out the cooling fans, lay them on a paper towel, and bathe them in 409. If left unchecked for too long you're guaranteed failure because the layer of nicotine will build up to the point where it will load down a fan and destroy it.

  • Re: Best ESR meter/What to look for

I have a MESR-100 v2 and I have had no problems with it at all. For a meter that costs a little over $50 I think it gives you the most bang for your buck. It actually works for testing ESR while the cap is in circut too. I know there are instances when in circut testing is totally impossible but for the most part it works great.

  • Re: Hanspree HF235DPB turns on for 0.3 seconds...

Not saying that it's definitely your problem but that model is actually known for blowing ccfl lamps. I priced lamps for some of these before and ended up throwing them out when I realized that it would cost me like $50 in lamps to fix a used monitor that costs $100 new. I know they used an InnoLux panel and trying to find complete ccfl assemblies for it to just drop in was impossible at the time. Honestly if I fix a 32 inch tv I usually set a limit of $40. If I don't forsee myself repairing it within that limit then it goes into...

  • Re: Sanyo DP42848 42" LCD TV: sound, but no picture

lol yeah I figured that out last night. I then found the datasheet for the IC on the primary inverter and shorted out the pin for the timing capacitor (pin 1) to ground. Probably not the smartest thing to do since i'm missing the resistance from those two lamps but so far for "testing" purposes it's working. It's actually a pretty decent tv and i'm only $30 into it so far so now that i've ran it for over an hour to verify that it works and only the two lamps were burnt out i'm thinking that it may be worth paying...

  • Re: Sanyo DP42848 42" LCD TV: sound, but no picture

I have the same exact set on the bench right now. It has two burnt out CCFL bulbs in it. I figured I would hijack an already dead thread since it pertains to the same thing that I am dealing with. What I was wondering was if it was possible to just eliminate two bulbs (top and bottom) and run the tv like that? If I get the time i'll probably end up throwing it back together and trying it anyway but I figured i'd put the question out there to save me some time.
