    Re: samsung on off issue

I am having this exact same issue on a Samsung LN40A630, takes a long time to come up, keeps restarting with blinking red light until it does, and when it does come up it has thin snowy multicolored lines throughout the screen followed by a loud high pitched squeal out of the speakers and eventually automatically shuts off. if I have a source input through HDMI. I've tried replacing all the caps on the board (none were blown or bulging) along with bypassing the thermistors with no changes at all. Ive given up on it and just purchased a main board and power supply off ebay because Ive heard suggestions that it may be the mainboard and not the powersupply.

Hmmmm, Are you running it with an HDMI cable? HDMI cable faults can cause lots of weird things! (like pink screen this - happened to out 42" samsung plasma - I thought for sure the TV was toast, until we went to take it off the wall. Just bumped the HDMI cable and the picture came back!)

If your using an HDMI cable, try using a different input (like RCA), or just get a new HDMI cable.

Very curious to know if you fixed it or not. I have the same problem. I replaced both
20N60C3R out sheer speculation. No change. I am going to take Tho's advise and swap out the thermistors. I will post back with the results.

          Hi all, noob here.

I'm seeing the exact same problem when I took a look at a coworker's LN40A630.

The caps looked okay, but I changed them out anyways... No improvement.

I removed the main board, the one with all the inputs (HDMI, RCA jacks, etc.) to inspect the soldering under a microscope and it all looks okay, even though there's residual flux all over the circuit board... Ugh.

Haven't changed out the DSC 2.5D-15 thermistors yet, but I will when I find the right ones.

              Re: samsung on off issue

Finally got a hold of some thermistors and changed them out... No improvement.

My coworker decided to buy a new TV, so he let me keep the TV... Aside from the power up issue, it's a fine TV, so I'll use it in my dining room.

I really think it's the main board, but it's not worth spending any appreciable amount of money (> $50) to replace it.

I can avoid the loud screeching noise at power up by just plugging in a 3.5mm plug into the headphone jack during power up and unplugging it when everything is ok after a minute or two... Not the best solution, but it's a free TV, so I can't complain too much.

Same issue here, has anyone resolved this?

The only fixes I've found on the web are somebody baking their main board and someone else replacing their main board.

                    Re: samsung on off issue

Look on the back side of the main board and there should be a tantalum cap there. I forget the value but it is a little square surface mount type. Replace it. I got one from digikey for a couple bucks and it fixed the same problem I ha on my Samsung 50 inch although it was a slightly different version.

top of board view, circle is where the multimeter slipped testing the fuse and got a spark tv hasnt turned on since, before that it was the same issue as everyone else, turning tv on in morning it would turn on and off atleast 3 times shreaking occasionally but would be fine if i left it on... caps look ok not sure where to start i am a novice to say the least but want to learn about this type of thing hoping to save a nice tv from the dump...

I just want you to clear about it. Look on the picture you posted from point b to piont A and go to the end of the heat sink. do you see the rte-801 and rte-802 ? The next to rte-801 and rte-802 is 2 relay (that is the switch, SDT it is call is single fold double through , black color) go to next is the input power conector. It is 2 pin, righ? .The problem is right there. The power ac input from the connector , 2 pin .It go to the relay sdt switch and from the switch go to the rte-801 and rte-802 and from the point rte 801 and rte-802 to the diot, Righ? If the pin on the sdt cold solder or open . It will burn the rte 801 and 802. or if the the 2 relay (sdt shorted, It will not use the remote control to turn it off, or on. In my case, the rte801 and rte 802 was burn, I troubleshooting from the ac input to the relay (sdt) I found the the 1 pin on the sdt (relay) is cold solder so it make the rte hot and it up. I check the number on the rte 801 and 802 the value is SCK0512 that mean 5 ohm and 12amp and diameter is 20mm. I replace it. It is work ok now.
My TV died yesterday. No power at all.
RTE-801 and RTE802 were burnt (circuit board discolored as well). The solder connections were really bad on the thermisters - because of the heat.
Also replaced capacitor CP808, CP810. They were slightly bulging.
Put all together and works great!. Thank you for your help!

I have the same board, bn44-00222a, with transistors RTE801 and 802 burnt out. Unfortunately, RT801 was slightly bent over and slightly melted the "black box" on RL-YE802. Do I need to worry about the board being discolored if I replace the transistors? And what is RL-YE802 and should i worry about replacing that too? Thanks all!

The Black box is a relay and i think it would depend on the degree of "meltage". I would try replacing the first two and if the relay is too warped to function properly then replace it as well.

I just "rescued" one of these tv's from an electronics recycling bin and after resoldering the cold solder points on the board it came back to life and is working fine again. Good luck with yours
