To be sure on whether the fault is main or power board related, you need to locate the standby power output and see if it is steady - typical reading 5V. I believe we tried this with heavymachines' TV, but I can't remember at the moment.

So, then isolate the main board power connector which has any standby on it (just unplug them all.) If it does not come back, it indicates a bad power board.

Just to confirm, on any of the power board pins, no output voltages? How are you doing the test? If you have no output voltages then yes, the power board would appear to be bad.

yea when i didn't get anything with the standby i checked the other connectors also. now when i check the others do i need the tv plugged in? I don't know if this helps but i was watching the tv and it just turned itself off. no storm or power surge at all

The TV should be plugged in during the test. What part are you using as your ground - for the black lead - the metal chassis?

OK, it seems like your fault is with the power board; the symptoms and tests appear to show this.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

picked up another TV. This time is a Vizio M65-C1. TV does not turn on. I had repaired another 60 inch vizio , Bad main board.
When power button is pressed, the Power led indicator on the bottom right, turns for a few seconds and then it fades away. No backlight or Vizio logo on screen. Removed back cover and repeated test.

                                  Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Bug looks like hardware so thought I posted it here. Exact same behavior on 2 different model 4K Vizio TVs running their SmartCast smarttv software. After launching youtube app, press vizio button on remote to return to the smarttv menu, once in awhile, a column of bad pixels will show for few seconds on the left hand side.

It seems the vizio software is reinitializing hardware when returning to the smarttv menu. In general, SmartCast software isn't very good. Also will randomly (relatively infrequent) get no network connection when on wifi and require reboot....
