Re: Vizio VM60P HDTV10A No signs of life except speaker pop when unplugged

How sure are you it is bad?

    List your regulators like this:

    U8, LD1117-33
    Pin 1 = 5.53V
    Pin 2 or Tab = 3.33V
    Pin 3 = 0.02V

^The above regulator is working correctly.

got to tell ya the regulators on laptop mobos etc all have different numbers from manufacture to another can't be standard numbering scheme. sheesh.

Yes there is a standard scheme.

        KA1117-33 = Korean Semiconductor, 1117 type, 3.3V output
LM1117-25 = Linear Monolithic (National Semiconductor), 1117 type, 2.5V output
LD1117-ADJ = ST Micro (Not sure how acronym derived), 1117 type, adjustable output

        see the pattern?

well this thing is not numbered like that at all, its labeled out like this...

brand logo says ac with a half circle around it

in the middle says 84-33 don't know if its a positive regulator but its 3.3 volt output i am sure.

and on bottom its says 0536al dunno if radio shack will have it or not. still a greenhorn here but i am your student here lol, teach me what those mean,

yes i see the pattern on your example but this one is throwing me off a little.

Radioshack won't sell them. I think half the store is dedicated to selling phones now.

84-33 is probably a 1084 type regulator 3.3V output. What do the pins measure? Test each relative to chassis.

Re: Vizio VM60P HDTV10A No signs of life except speaker pop when unplugged

got 5 volts in 3.3 volts on tab top of chip and bottom pin reads zero zilch suppose to be 1.2 volts less then the 3.3. the regulator after that reads less and no output on bottom pin as well.

No that only applies for adjustable regulators, ones with -ADJ in the part suffix. That regulator is A-OK. Check the others. If there is a U33 on the board it is essential you check it.

In the UK we have a similar store called Maplin, they still at least sell some components, but they are mostly useless. Go in there once in a while to look for something and never find it. Don't know why I bother...

no u33 maybe i am blind but here is a pic of exact board, its not same board in that video you showed me. thankful your working with me on it.

                          See image.

                          Red devices are regulators.

                          List your regulators like this:

                          U8, LD1117-33
                          Pin 1 = 5.53V
                          Pin 2 or Tab = 3.33V
                          Pin 3 = 0.02V

(Pin 2 and tab are the same pin - test one or the other. There is no tab on some of the other regulators, so just test pin 2. And on some regulators there is no pin 2, so test tab.)

                          Green devices are fuses.

TV unplugged - meter on fuse on 200 ohms - should read 0 to 2 ohms. (2 ohms = accounts for meter lead resistance.)
TV stuck in standby - test voltage on each end - should be nearly the same both ends (could be 0V - that just means no power yet because it's stuck in standby.)

All regulators are OK, all fuses are good. I suggest you just swap the main board - possibly the all too common problem with firmware corruption or eeprom corruption.
