    Vizio e321vl ccfl replacement

I come across an E321VL that power on and then the back-lamps turns on for 2 second and then turn off. The power LED stay lit and never turn off. Only when I power off the TV it turn off. When I was placing the TV on my work bench I heard a rattling noise coming from the inside of the TV. Once I open up the TV I didn’t find any loose objects inside the TV casing. So I figure it was coming from the inside of LCD screen.

Once inside the LCD screen I found one broken U shape CCFL back-lamps. I have other E321VL with a busted LCD screen but this LCD screen have single straight CCFL tubes inside. Not having the exact U shape CCFL, I temporary used 2 straight tubes replacing the broken U shape CCFL. Now the TV stays on and is working with no problem.

My question is would you leave this fix as a permanent fix or should I try to hunt down the U shape CCFL?
    Thanks

Could you please post a picture with this U shaped setup? I have never seen one. We can learn from this for the future.

Do you have the LCD panel make and model number?

I decided to hunt down the original CCFL and I found a seller on eBay
( rescued-parts) who had the lamps in stock.

I uploaded a picture of both lamps, one is broken and the replacement from eBay seller.

Now the LCD TV is back working.

Are the lamps socketed or soldered in place? I also have a hard time sometime removing the lamp from the lamp's white plastic stands/clips without breaking those clips.

I had to remove the solder wire from each end of the lamp, the lamps are held in place with a silicon holder that house the lamp and each wires. I was very carefully with those clips inside the LCD screen casing to hold the lamp in place. Those clip can break very easy, luck for me none had broken during my replacement of the lamp. I think heat cause those clip to break easy within time.

Where does inverter IC get signal from if a backlight lamp is bad or broken??

                    Re: Vizio e321vl ccfl replacement

By measuring the current using a winding on the transformer. Usually the current is too low or too high on failure and the IC sees this and shuts down.

                      Re: Vizio e321vl ccfl replacement

Is there a way to determine though whether it's a lamp on the secondary side or if it's the mosfets or is the part of the same circuit?

                        It's difficult... may be possible.
