    Cap Identification

    Hi,

My Tv the backlight has gone out. Can see the image in the back but there is no backlight. When the Tv is turned out the light stays on for a 1second then turns off. So I took the back off the Tv and the first thing that jumps out is there is three blue capacitors that have gone brown. I have unsoldered them to identify the caps.

This is what is on them

    Cap 1.
    LY
    SL6KV
    27J

    Cap 2.
    39
    6KV
    SEC

    Cap 3.
    LY
    SL6KV
    10J

I'm pretty sure that cap 1 is a 27pf 6000volt 5% tol high voltage ceramic cap, and cap 3 is a 10pf 6000volt 5% tol high voltage ceramic cap. I am unsure of cap 2.

Here are pictures of the board and caps.

    Please help

Great - thanks its probably 6000v 39pF however these tend to crack when they are bad.
From your description is could be the inverter transformer can you check the secondary windings - if you can read the part number or put up a picture of the back of the board we can help locate them.
There is a guide written by a retiredcaps and perhaps reading that starting at post 19 will give more ideas of problems - please mention the make/model of Tv.

The model of the tv is a Vivo LTV40FHD.

On the board it has LKP-PI1005, but it did have a sticker over it with LK-PI400106E.

The 39 is smaller then the rest of them. The 27J is the worst of all three, it is quite brown but it isnt cracked.

Cap is a open circuit device, it should not show DC resistance reading.
By the way 'J' = +/-5% capacitance tolerance.

                    Re: Cap Identification

That looks like one I have at: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=22210
Are you sure the first cap is 27pF because mine are 39pF, 39pF, and 10pF.
Digikey did not have 39pF and I was going to solder a 12pF to a 27pF to make a 39pF.
The two 39pF were in parallel on the circuit board so I put a 12pF on a 33pF and put a 33pF for a total of 78pF (same as two 39pF).
TDK part number CC45SL3JD330JYNN for the 33pF and CC45SL3JD120JYNN for the 12pF.
Also CC45SL3JD100JYNN for the 10pF and CC45SL3JD270JYNN for the 27pF.
I bought ten of each and selected USPS first class mail ($2.60).

                      Re: Cap Identification

Are you sure that the 39pf is directly connected in parallel, that will have quite low Xc for the lamp ballast (lamp will draw more curent)? How big is this TV?

The circuit board traces went to both caps C43 and C44.
It is a 37 inch LCD.

OK, for TV that big, it makes sense to have big caps supplying all the lamps.

                              Re: Cap Identification

Are C41 and C42 both 39pF? I was able to read them without unsoldering. Had to bend them a little. Wonder if the wrong one got put in there. All the ones on the backlight circuit card are 27pF on mine.
                              Both C34 and C36 are 10pF.
My C43 was the problem. Not sure how long the others will last but I bought extras if I have to replace them later.

                                Re: Cap Identification

One problem might be that the OP doesnt have the original caps?
I have been looking at the area deciding which are the secondary windings on the transformer and think that are as marked . In doing so I see where the 3 caps have been removed but also that the other three do not look "factory"
so perhaps all 6 were replaced previously?

OP can you see what markings are on your other 3

Transformers - think these just provide power to the inverter board? but you can still check - power off meter on ohms check S1 >S2 and S3>S4 dont know what to expect but may show up a mismatch or open.
(just in case new caps dont fix it)
