Fitted replacement power board and set is now working.I think the clue to this one all along was the fact that the power supply would run without the main board connected.Hope this helps anyone else who has this fault.

Ok update on this one.Just fitted replacement main board and the symptoms are just the same.I suppose its the power supply then.

Tom how did you know that this is a 17MB35? Did you just recognise it? Have ordered one on ebay model specific but could have paid a lot less.Could not see those numbers anywhere on the board.

Far, far too much experience with shitty Vestel TVs

They are model specific, but they can be programmed easily. Worst case you usually get a wrong colour image due to panel settings being wrong; you can use 4725-MENU (on remote) to access service menu and reprogram it.

17MB35's are common, and pretty cheap.

Just make sure you get one with the right number of HDMIs.

I've checked the two schottkys and they read OK as do the 0 rated resistors.None of the voltage rails have low resistance.
What is confusing me is why the power supply runs OK with the main board disconnected as I thought it needed a ps-on signal from the main to turn on.

Most likely there is a problem with some chip on the mainboard, I think you might just need to get a new mainboard.

Put your black probe on one of the metal clips of the HDMI connectors, or the RF can. That will be grounded. Now measure the resistance from each voltage rail.

Desparation setting in - try testing the schottky Diodes part no SK 33 bottom left corner of your main board picture. Also in that area there are 4-5 zero rated resistors - can you check those as if they were a fuse- on ohms should read the same as touching the probes together

Here is the picture of the other side of main board.
To summarize.All voltages on the power supply come up at switch on but no BL-On Voltage.The TV has a solid front led i.e. not flashing.After 10 seconds I can hear a tick from the power supply and it shuts down.All voltages die except 3.3v stby and 5v stby.Then the power supply restarts. After less time about 5 seconds same thing happens.After 3rd shut down just left with 3.3vstby and 5v stby and flashing front LED.

Ok, that sugguests that there is definitely something shorted, try un-plugging the t-con and see if the backlights come on.

LOL, stick-on heatsinks!

Classic crappy Vestel. Opened one up to find the heatsink had fallen off!

I will say Vestel quality has slightly improved over the years, but they are still rubbish TVs.
