Well I have the same problem symptom, thin black horizontal lines, same model, bought at COSTCO, manufactured in November 2010. I have read many, many similar posts , there appears no success with board replacement of ribbon connections. The nature of the failure rests with internal panel component failure. Especially when several horizontal (pixel) thin black lines are evident and continue to grow in numbers as time goes by. Samsung as a Manufacturer must very well know the nature of the failure and are not admitting or addressing this problem outside of warranty, confirming their poor product quality and customer support.
This is another example of a Manufacturer cost cutting and poor quality control impacting customers who have bought Samsung's products in good faith.Comment

I have single black line about 2 inches from the top on a Samsung PN50C550, made 2010. It showed up after about 16,000 panel hours, mounted on a wall. I found a video on youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoZxCu83tV0) that demonstrates what is causing the single line failures - burnt out traces, apparently after the ribbon and under the glass (And here we've been blaming the ribbons!) We can only speculate on the reason... redox? electromigration? silicon nodules from thermal cycling? End of the day, it's an unfixable, slowly dying TV. Of course, I'll still check the y-buffer, but it's highly unlikely to be the cause based on recent feedback.
Personally, it's hard to complain about 16,000 hours, which works out to about 5 cents per hour of use, but for someone used to TVs becoming obsolete before failing, it's still a bit disappointing... especially when there's still a year or two before the 4K OLEDs become affordable (which is what I consider plasma's true replacement).Comment

Confirmed that the panel is the cause of my set's black line. Interestingly, the line that failed is *exactly* where the chrome browser bookmark bar ends. We use a HTPC, so the browser window is often up and it goes from almost white to black right where the failure is. Seems an unlikely coincidence.Comment

I have a Samsung PN50C6400 which has at least two line issues (picture attached). There are horizontal black lines of different size (perhaps wider ones are just multiple lines appearing as one) banded across middle of screen (none on top or bottom 20%). These lines started some years back and have slowly increased in number/size. They can be annoying, but i guess i have gotten used to them and often don't even recognize them when watching, but would like to "fix" them if possible.
There are also some vertical, colored lines right of center and near right side. They have appeared after the vertical lines and have not grown to the same extent as the vertical lines.

hi guy my friend gives me this tv a 50tu8070u that has no picture at all, sound ok, backlights ok. i tought it was a bad panel, but the tv has many horizzontal lines green, i tried with the tape method but nothing change, only the green lines disappear but still no picture. You that have more good than me, do you think it s a panel or can be the main board, because my friend wants buy a new main board....but the tv respond to the remote control, have sound only no picture so i think it s a panel problem that is so broken that i cant fix with tape...or i wrong if someone can help me thanks, i give... -

I got this tv from friend complaint is ghosting or horizontal lines on image.
never saw the original symptom but I took the tv back home. the funny part is that after bringing to home, the tv worked fine no issue for 3 weeks.
then it started to show the ghosting white image.
I started using the tape method, but this tv does not have a T con board and it has only 1 ribbon cable from main board to the tv panel.

First, the black horizontal lines even overlay the TV's menu. Does this behavior indicate that it's the plasma panel that's defective? If not for the black lines, the TV works just fine. I've cleaned the 6 connectors between the panel and the Y-buffer board, causing no change in the black lines. Visually, the 12 ICs on the Y-buffer look brand new (no holes, etc.). I put my fluke meter in continuity mode and tried to perform the "short" test on the 6 panel ports and found many shorts. But I don't think I'm doing the "short" test correctly and I'm hoping someone can provide guidance.... -
I posted about this previously but didn't get any response, and I have some troubleshooted a bit so I have more info.
The screen is full of horizontal "gaps" or lines that distort the picture badly, and after about 10 seconds of powering it on the screen starts to fill with red vertical bars that take on the horizontal pattern. After the screen filled with the red bars, they instantly vanished and then slowly started to reappear. Hi, I'm new around here and hoping that there may still be some people on here that are knowledgable about plasma display repair, as some of the old badcaps forum posts have been pretty useful to me so far.
For any regular plasma TV I probably wouldn't bother to go through this effort, but I have a pro-grade Pioneer plasma which I really want to use and it would be a shame to throw it out since there's not many of them still around these days.
