Vizio VU42l Washed out picture help

    I have a Vizio VU42l.
The picture is washed out with very little colors. All menu settings make changes but not enough to affect picture quality. I replaced the mainboard with no improvement. There are no visible bad caps or power supply issues. My only thought is that it might be the T-con board but I understand that I would have no picture or a scrambled picture if that were the case. Any suggestions.

This can be the T-CON or the Gate/source drive ICs on the panel are being driven with the wrong voltage. I would try new T-con first or check the voltage of the Regulator ICs on the T-CON to see if it has correct voltages.

Thanks tibimakai, glad to know that since it is so hard to be 100% for sure unless a lot of us have seen a lot of failure modes. I have seen this in the Samsung monitor Syncmaster 2233, but the T-CON is built-in so it is hard nail down the cause since you cannot separate the circuits from the LCD panel itself.

do you remember when I tried scraping the tab on that 46" Vizio, somehow I cut through that tab and cut like seven traces and the picture looked very washed out. By the way with a sandpaper it works much better, but now it's to late, selling parts out of that TV.

VIZIO E70-E3 Half picture with half TCON
            by Fly_Among_Stars
            Hi,
            I have a VIZIO E70-E3.
Symptoms: Black screen, no picture, but LED backlights are working.
I probed the power board and voltages are as listed on the board.
            Main board appears fine, too.
I believe the problem is either a bad T-CON board, or connection to LCD, or bad LCD.
There are two separate ribbon cables feeding the LCD.
If both are connected, the screen is black.

If only the ribbon cable that feeds the right side of the screen (when viewed from the front) is disconnected, the left side of the screen shows picture and...

Sony KD-75XF9005 grey Picture but Sound. TCON or panel?
            by iglitare
            Hi,

i want to repair a Sony KD-75XF9005 TV that initially only showed a grey picture.
Backlight seems to work, Sound (Setup menu after reset) works.
If i dissconnect the left FFC cable from TCON to panel i have half a screen on the right. If left cable is connected always only the grey screen.
Interchanged the cables, its always only the right side that is working. Always grey if left side is connected.
With my small knowledge i would think at least the cables are good.

Can this happen because of a bad tcon board?
Or is it always a bad/shorted...

LG 82UN8570AUD ~ TCON or PANEL?
            by kca
            Hello all ~

Hope this finds you well. This LG 82UN8570AUD (April 2021 model) 4K UHD television has full audio capabilities but video is compromised / problematic.

When I picked up this large LG tv it had a full black screen upon startup. Previous owner said it just went black one day. No popping sound or anything else of note.

I got the display to work by taping off several traces of the right-hand side ribbon cable on the TCON that leads from TCON to PANEL. However, despite dozens and dozens of attempts to find the right combination / range of traces taped...

Un70nu6900 taped lvds, how to fix washed out 1/2 picture?
            by mecha1166
I am getting these 70 inch Samsungs daily. Dead set light comes on goes off, dark screen. Tried taping the problem lvds cable pins 13 to ? pin, used about 9 mm scotch tape. Picture comes on, no distortion lines, looks good, but 1/2 of screen is washed out. Problem seems to always be the last little strip on the bottom. Has anyone found what is actually the problem? Possibly one of three diodes there? I have a pic but it is washed out on 1/2. Anyony had success in fully restoring the picture? Thanks.

Vizio M65-E0 No Picture, No Sound
            by ggil44
Hi I inherited a Vizio M65-E0 that isn't working. It must have been dropped on the corner because I found that the infrared circuit had a capacitor with one end broken off of the board and some green corrosion around the plug to the main board. I re-soldered the capacitor and cleaned the corrosion well and tried turning the M65-E0 on and I was successful. My problem is that while the back lights come on and appear to perform local dimming there is no picture or sound. It kind of looks like you are looking at the TV through a very dense fog, where changing the input on the remote will change bright...
