Vestel not powering on - Tips

I just got a new refurbished power supply - 17PW15-9 - for a POS Vestel. And I don't mean "point of sale". This was for a Wharferdale 32" TV, but it applies to most Vestel sets.

Anyway, when I first got it, the standby light came on, but the TV didn't. Power buttons didn't do anything. (Haven't got RC yet.)

Thinking about common Samsung faults of corrupt EEPROMs I pulled the socketed EEPROM from the board. (Yes, it is actually socketed. This is a nice touch in a TV, and it's impressive for Vestel.)

Anyway, I do this and now the TV turns on, but it takes about 30 seconds before the backlight comes on and another 10 before showing "no signal" and a blue screen. And partially in Turkish, and it thinks it is a fantastic TV with 255 SCART and 255 HDMI inputs. Not a PSU problem - voltages are up straight away.

The solution is to trick the TV into booting without an EEPROM - i.e. 40 second boot - but then put the EEPROM in while it is running and go into the service menu (4-7-2-5 on remote control) and restore all factory settings. If, like me, you don't yet have the remote control, you can go into the normal menu and change the settings (brightness/contrast/etc) to defaults, but you'll need to fix a lot of things and to fix the inputs you will need to eventually get into the service menu.

Hope this helps someone with fixing these things.

hi tom just picked one of these Wharferdale 32 up has the 17PW15-9 psu right all caps are tested ok i have turned the set on the screen flashes about 2 second then nothing sound works ok. i have just removed the invertor board and all transformers test ok got the readings online no difference in any one i just rechecked and do have the 24 volts to inverter ok so im thinking one of the cfls has gone 2 secs to black as all the transformers test ok.am i right in thinking if the tcon fuse was gone the screen would still stay lit grey/white.

How did you decide two CCFLs to be bad? Did you power set up with LCD panel removed/out of place?

Could try picking up a cracked screen 32" and swapping in the CCFLs. Were the faulty CCFLs in different positions or right next to each other? Bad inverter can cause similar fault...

well worth looking on them if you have the time ie freecycle and freegle etc just picked a 24inhd bush led set no stand or remote usual fault stuck in standby will create another thread for it not many wires coming of the psu 6 i think very small psu with invertors on it.

Nothing free ever comes here... Pick up enough 42" lcd's for around £20 each though.

Mrs moans about the amount of sets, boards etc I have here... i just blame you lot and this forum. Funny though... She never complains about the £100's a week I make from them! WOMEN!! LOL

Just repaired Evesham Alquemi42sx, it is a Vestel. Would not power up when first switched on. Switch off, then on, second time, would start up normally. Did cure the problem, but could not get into service mode at first, because I didn't know tv wouldn't go into service mode if switched to dtv. In tv reception, entered service mode ok with menu 4725.Put tv back to factory settings a number of times, no improvement. Left tv for a couple of hours, switched on, and came on straight away, and has done so ever since. One other thing, in options, changed so that tv didn't have to come on in standby.

I am just starting to look at a 26" Bush - Blue led lights and then goes out when channel detected -sound is ok -controls all work BUT there is nothing on screen no backlight (tried in the dark but cant see anything) and cant see picture on screen, but will test that again tomorrow. Odd thing is there is
24v on the inverter board ~3v on a blue lead blon? and 2.6v on yellow lead
dim?. fuses are good and 24v on the caps. Have still to check the bulbs
but there is no flash at all.
I would not have posted yet if this thread had not been revisited but I remembered seeing a removable chip it is 24C64L which is a cmos eeprom.
Board is a 17MB12-2 with the no expense spared heatsink and the Power
Supply is a 17pw22-4. I will be doing more testing but perhaps Tom can
confirm this is the sort of chip he removed as recorded above.

                                    Hi,

I have a T480 which suffered a failed bios update. I can reliably read and flash the WInbond 25Q128 (U49) but it's still dead (no post, just musical beeps). Turned to the Thunderbolt eeprom (25Q80 in U15) but I can't read the same data from it twice in a row - it's different every time. I'm using a CH341G (same as on https://www.onetransistor.eu/2017/08...schematic.html) in exactly the same way, just moving the SOIC clip from one to the other (noting location of pin 1). Both are 3.3V devices.

The coin cell backup battery is out, the main battery...

Checked all the voltages on the power board inc backlight circuit, they all read ok and are stable. Backlights tested with backlight tester and all work fine (2 strips x11LED on each).
No picture, backlight or sound just blinking...

Hello, My head unit developed strange behaviors so I ran the built-in diagnostic package which returned "No EEProm". The service manual says there is no EEProm connected. I approached Pioneer and they said to swap out the DSP board. All said and good but the DSP board is $860 USD. I am hoping someone can help me

1). Understand the schematic and check the connections between the EEProm and DSP
2). Check the functionality of the EEProm

I don't know if this is the unit's problem but it's a place to start.

I have little to no electronic experience...

Hello everyone from Italy, I'm here to ask for help on a Vestel TV, I've had a Vestel TV branded "XD" with a broken screen for years, but now I've found a Telefunken (still Vestel but older) and I've mounted the panel on the "XD" TV, it works, but the screen is upside down, given that Vestel does not allow you to rotate the image from the service menu, does anyone know how to solve the problem? the original panel is marked ves315WNDS-2D-N12 while the main board 17mb110, the panel I mounted instead in the tv (from the telefunken) is a ves315WNDA-02. ... It is not worth repairing...
