    LG 60PY3DF shuts off

When you press the power button you can hear and see everything "boot up". But after 5-7 seconds you hear a click and it shuts down. Now there is still power because you can still see the power butting lit up from the front. I did unhook the Z-sustain and it still did the same thing. I did look for bad caps but didn't see anything bad (I am just learning this stuff). From what I have read it seems to be the main power supply that is bad. So would you agree to change the EAY32929201 board? I just don't want to start throwing money into this thanks.

This is a 60" model? Is there only one PSU? I'm a little surprised at how small that is... it's smaller than the one in my 42" plasma!

Check the Vs and Va voltage using a multimeter. Set your meter to 500V, 600V or 1000V DC. Check it while it clicks on.

If it's zero or nearly zero.
          - Disconnect mains power
          - Unplug Y board (left hand side of TV, from back)
          - Check again with mains power
          - Disconnect mains power
          - Unplug Z board (right hand side of TV, from back)
          - Check again with mains power

I see one main psu and two (i think) sub psu.

That looks more reasonable; I was noticing the tiny 390uF capacitor primary, but it looks like it's got another board for more power supply stuff so that makes sense. I'd expect a 60" plasma to draw maybe 500-600W, so a bigger power supply is expected.

Second pic is the Z board, it generates the voltages to drive the plasma display in conjunction with the Y board.

Yes I just saw that. The other psu is to the right of the Z board. I will take a pic when I get home. sorry for the confusion.

There's one PSU on this model which is split into two boards. I'm guessing they use a different smaller board for different TVs, so they can produce multiple models and only change one part.

The Y board opposite to the Z board and connects through the buffers (usually... sometimes the buffers are integrated on the Y board.)

That board likely produces the clicking sound, but it's unlikely to cause the problem. Try my suggestion of unplugging the Y and Z boards first.

I unplugged both boards then plugged in the power cord. There is no power going to the tv. The power button does not glow.

Try plugging in the Y board then. I had an LG which would shut down when both boards were unplugged. (Bad for troubleshooting.)

Things would do the normal boot process and then shut off. I did notice it got to the point where it showed av1 then shuts off in case that matters.

Yes that's very important! The fact that the screen lights up and shows a picture (even if just "AV1") is a clue: the plasma drive boards are probably okay, it's probably a main board problem or a power supply problem.

Before you try this, remove the button board if it has one. (The board with on/off, volume, channel etc. on it.) Check for stuck buttons etc. If the button gets stuck the TV may turn off as soon as it turns on.

The tv buttons are touch sensetive. It says av1 at the scrolling marquee below the main display. I do see just faintly where on the main screen where the input info would show.

Oh okay. If you turn the lights out in the room, any light from screen? I assume you mean the indicators on the side of some LGs which tell you which input the TV is on? (I've got one of those for parts at the moment.)

I plugged back in the Z board and I can fully see on the main screen where it says av1 and vcr right below before it shuts off. The button you mention like power and volume are below the main screen and are touch sensative. So if there is no power to the tv you cannot see those power, volume, or input buttons. No traditional buttons for that. The only things on the side will be for usb, composite, and s video.

Those buttons can still get "stuck" although it's usually caused by dust or something building up on the board. If it's possible, remove the board and clean it; a user on this forum had a similar problem with an LCD monitor a while back.

I want to make sure we are talking about the same thing. From the pic you can see the "buttons" from the flash of my camera. From what I see nothing can get stuck since the "buttons" are on a smooth surface so you cannot feel them. Without the flash that section looks like part of the bezel. Thanks
