Hello everyone,
I have an ASUS TUF Gaming FX505GD that's powering on, showing the ASUS logo for about 2 seconds with keyboard backlight, then immediately shuts off. After it shuts down, the power button does nothing until I unplug the laptop completely. No fans spin afterward either.
I’ve tried:
- CMOS reset
- Removing the SSD/HDD
- Reseating RAM (removing each stick individually stops boot completely)
- Cleaning up recently applied thermal paste around CPU/GPU and nearby VRM components (issue persists)
With no RAM installed, the laptop doesn’t power on at all, which seems unusual.
Important note: I’ve had the internal battery unplugged for years because of a faulty BMS board, so I always run it on AC power only.
It behaves like a power rail or VRM shutdown, possibly triggered by the embedded controller. I’d appreciate help narrowing down whether it's a shorted capacitor or MOSFET near the CPU/GPU VRM area, or something else entirely.
Happy to share photos or boardview references if needed—any suggestions, component-level troubleshooting steps, or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.
