Another panel or tcon thread :)

Does this look like a bad panel or bad tcon? I've never seen the basket weave pattern. It does have audio. I don't know if the menu comes up or not. I asked the guy if he had it looked at and he told me they said it would cost more than the tv is worth. That has me a little paranoid that its the panel.

Re: Another panel or tcon thread

I think some places quote the repair of a t-con as requiring the screen and the tcon since they were originally sold together, and if your buying a new one from the manufacturer you used to have to buy both together from many brands.

I saw some sony page i think saying that they would start sellign the t-cons seperately , but that in the past they sold them with the screens only because of lots of permanent settings in each tcon that were customized to the screen.
Fixed so far 12 lcd's , 1 plasmas, 5 monitors, 0 dlp's (plan to keep the dlps at 0). and 3 atx power supplies, and 2 motherboards.

this tv is a sharp 52D62U. I have bud m's sony t-con pdf. It shows some examples of ad tcons and a symetrical pattern is shown but only bars not criss cross.

TCL 50S535 bad tcon or panel issue?
        by x_orange90_x
Just bought this for 10 bucks yesterday hoping to fix it. The guy said water dropped inside from a dehumidifier hose and it started showing black and white vertical bars then went blank. When I got it home and turned it on it came on fine and displayed correctly but I was noticing faint vertical bars in the image. After a little bit I turned it off and back on and it was a black screen again. I opened it up to check for water damage and corrosion but didn't find anything of the sort. I cleaned the ribbons anyway and reconnected them but still got a blank screen. If I disconnect the right side...

General Questions on the Relationship Between Mainboard, TCON and Panel
        by mmartell
My goal here is to be able to use boards on hand to swap into faulty sets when the faulty board is not obvious.

I will start by asking what is the format of the output from the mainboard and is it generic in any way or does it vary by manufacturer and/or model ?

And as far as I know a tcon and panel must be a matching pair because the timing of the signals and the voltages required to drive the panel are specific to the panel itself. (That may be a blanket statement that isn't true in some cases where the panel creates its own sub-voltages on its panel boards?)...

Amazon Fire TV Omni K24NE5 tcon or panel bad?
        by Lee M.
TV came on with BL on but blank screen. Disconnected one of the ribbon cables from tcon to panel driver board and now I have half of the screen working normally. Any way to tell if the problem is with the tcon or the panel driver board or the panel itself? Should I just replace the tcon and see what happens?

Sony KD-65x8500b - bad Tcon or panel?
        by rimwall
Hi, hoping for some views on this one which I've not come across before. The TV generates an image that has 12 noticeable bands across it. The image is still there and accurate, but the colour (or perhaps the brightness) changes gradually across each band which creates a noticeable 'step change' at the edge of each band. Given it's a 4K TV with 2160 rows of pixels, I'm guessing the 12 bands correspond to 12 gate drivers of 180 rows each. If this guess is right, then perhaps:
        a) all the gate drivers are malfunctioning the same way (which seems unlikely), or
        b) the Tcon board is malfunctioning,...

        General panel/tcon troubleshooting question
        by jostewcrew
when troubleshooting tcon vs panel issues, there are many guides and pictures showing issues of both. There is one question i have in the troubleshooting method that ive overlooked the answer to, or there isnt a direct enough answer for me to grasp so here it goes...

when disconnecting the ribbon cables from the bottom of the tcon that lead to the panels (buffer?) boards, one at a time to see if any artifacts or image changes occur, i understand it to be that the act of an actual change itself is enough to point to the tcon board. except for a half black or white image caused by the...
