    Element flx-3220f-a Stuck in Standby

Stuck in standy, red light. No other signs of life when power button is pressed.

169 volts to inverter board no change when pressing power button.

No visually bad caps that I can make out.

Where do I go from here?

Check the diodes with your multimeter on the diode range. Check on the inverter board.

I had an Element that had a bad on the power supply board. Your board looks similar. Check the diodes right above the yellow transformer.
I recall that it was a fast recovery diode and either Digikey or Mouser had the exact part.
If you find a bad diode, I can look up the part number that I used.

I looked back through my records and it was an FLX3220F-A that had the bad diode.
The replacement was an FR154-B, which I purchased from Mouser. Their part number is 583-FR154-B.
Haven't checked to see if they still carry the part. The tv is still working after a couple of years!

Lack of a heatsink on those diodes mean they run hot.

            Hotter diode = shorter lifespan.

Inevitable failure. Especially as the inverter is probably drawing a good 4A.

Ok thanks for waiting guys. Pardon my ignorance but what kind of result am I looking for? I gather I would check both directions but would should I expect to see?

Working: 150 - 700 one way, OL or a single "1" the other way.

Faulty: Same reading both ways <50.

Is it possible for me to have several bad diodes?

I'm gonna need to see if I can scrounge some up out of my donor pile. I'll post back when I get another chance to play with it. Hopefully tonight. Kid duty now, moms working.

Unlikely, but possible. When the diode goes bad it shorts. This *usually* triggers a current limit on the power supply. However, if the current limit is badly designed it may be able to damage the other diode. If you remove the diode and the others still show as shorted, then you might have another few. They are 20 cent parts, though.

Hey Mu6, was the bad one on your set at D637? Thats the one that is most questionable to me, its reading 001 in both directions. Several others seem off but not as much as that one. BTW thank you everyone for the help.

Definitely bad. Pull it out and re-test to confirm, then note the part # written on the diode body.

Tested bad on the bench too. How close do specs have to be for something like this? Can I throw something close in or would I be better off waiting for the right part? unfortunately i am a very impatient person.

Ok, plucked a higher voltage rated diode from a PC power supply. I cut the old diode off at the legs and soldered the new one right to the old legs. Fired it up and i works a treat! Kiddies get a tv downstairs! Cant say how thankful I am for the help Tom66 and MU2, thanks for holding my hand. lol I posted a pic of my handywork for those interested.

Good idea taking it from a PC power supply but only if you pulled it from the output diodes. If you took one from the primary side it's possible it wasn't a fast recovery diode and that will mean the diode could fail soon. I'm glad you got it working.
