Re: 42" Maxent Plasma MX-42XM11 Lines on screen
Well, I'm stuck. I don't know what exactly i'm looking for. I tried cooling the entire main board to see if it would effect the problem. But even while cooled the rate of lines appearing didn't change.
I included photos of the main board back and front.Comment

Have you tried pressing on the main processor, the one with the green heatsink? Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: 42" Maxent Plasma MX-42XM11 Lines on screen
Hm it seems pressing down on the main processor causes more lines to appear, and releasing the pressure causes the new lines to disappear. Actually this is true for any of the chips I press on
Leaving the tv off doesn't take away the problem anymore. Now the lines appear the moment I turn it on.Last edited by tieny; 03-02-2012, 12:30 PM.Comment

Re: 42" Maxent Plasma MX-42XM11 Lines on screen
The part # is QPWB11526-1G -1-
The lines are becoming more stabilized so there's less change when pressing down on the chips. At one point I noticed that when pressing down on IC12 (next to the analog input in photo 2) some lines disappeared. It is the only chip that manage to decrease the amount of lines when pressed down. There might be more chips but it's under the metal cover over the inputs which is soldered on the board.Last edited by tieny; 03-02-2012, 03:54 PM.Comment

I see it's $100 on eBay - so most likely not worth it.
Do you have a part # for IC12?Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: 42" Maxent Plasma MX-42XM11 Lines on screen
That's a serial interface controller... especially if it's got 14 or 16 pins.
Unlikely to be the problem, but possibly in that local area.
Remember all the stuff near the inputs is likely for dealing -with- the inputs. Whereas the OSD is processed on the main processor using the RAM. You may be flexing the board causing the symptoms to go away in a different part.Last edited by tom66; 03-02-2012, 05:01 PM.Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Re: 42" Maxent Plasma MX-42XM11 Lines on screen
Alright i found the problem, it is the EtronTech RAM Chip. Pushing down on it hard enough or at a certain spot causes all the lines to disappear. (With the label "Etrontech" facing forward, pushing the right edge of the chip causes the problem to go away.) I just didn't press down on it enough being afraid I might damage something before.
How would I go about fixing this? ( I'm not familiar with these types of chips, are they soldered on?)Last edited by tieny; 03-02-2012, 05:35 PM.Comment

BGA (ball grid array) devices have many tiny balls of solder underneath the device which can break with temperature and vibration causing the problems mentioned. Lead free solder is a prime reason for early failure.
There are several techniques to fix the problem - one is reflow and the other is reballing.
I would recommend reflow, but it usually only lasts for a short while. Reflow involves baking the board at around 230°C for 2.5 minutes. The idea is the solder will melt and the chip will be re-soldered.
You can sometimes also do reflow with a hot air gun.
Reballing requires you to remove the chip and replace every single ball, then resolder it. It's not for novices, but it's the only guaranteed way to fix it, sadly. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

I was afraid of this, guess I'll have to go and get myself a hot air gun. What type should i get (what temperature)?and What's the proper technique for reflowing this type of chip with a hot air gun?Last edited by tieny; 03-02-2012, 07:53 PM.Comment

300°C will do. Look up the videos on the net on how to repair Xbox 360s and PS3s. Even then, the repair is usually fairly temporary. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

I'd be interested in a follow-up. Did reflowing the component fix the problem? If not, what was the problem?Comment

by Stanley1843Hello, I have a screen in where sometimes when I open it pop-up vertical multicolor lines (I would say the most of them are green). If I tun off and turn on the screen the lines dissapear or if I leave open the screen after approximately five minutes the lines gone. I measured the below voltages on the main PCB and on the T-CON board and the voltages are the same when it doesn’t display the vertical lines and when it displays the vertical lines. Also, I cleaned all the connectors very good with IPA. I moved back and forth the connectors and the COF tabs but the vertical lines didn't displayed...

by jeyoung12Hi all
I have lines on the screen...which is an age old problem that can be remedied by watching Youtube videos and getting out the tape.
My issue (after successfully fixing a different sammy tv with a separate tcon board and isolating the side of the panel...):
This tv has an integrated tcon...so it is a bit more confusing when trying to isolate the clocks.
It has a c ribbon and i have taken each end out to see if that will isolate the lines. instead, it makes it much worse ALL over the tv!
So....i don't know what end of the C ribbon to work with... -
by Ryan.manHello everybody! Posting this in hopes somebody has some expertise that leads to a clear path of troubleshooting that saves me a lot of time!
My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.
This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen... -
by kdanielAs stated by the person I collected the TV from, it just stopped working overnight. However, I still gave it a go to try and repair it.
There is a thread on the same TV but with slightly different issues where they had to tape connection points on the ribbon cable, so I want to see if this is repairable by any chance.
After bringing it home and plugging it in, the TV turned on with its backlight working but had no picture. After removing the back cover, the first thing I tried is to unplug one of the ribbon cables and the situation is as follows.

by ChrissygizmoHello again everyone,
This is my latest mission, to try getting this Sony tv back to normal working order…
I've only just got it today, when you power it up everything is as should be, in fact it works perfectly for a few minutes then the screen starts getting horizontal lines on & eventually the full screen goes back, I will upload photos of the problem & also some photos of the board etc. You might notice that I'm busy trying the tape method, I'm not sure exactly where the clock lines are so I'm just guessing & hoping for the best lol . I've already tried... - Loading...
