Need some help on this TV. We bought a Vizio 42" Plasma TV in about 5 or 6 years ago. The tv was on and then we heard a poping sound and the picture went black. We did some testing and have turned the lights out in the room to make it dark. We turned the Tv on and the screen came on but the picture was very grainey looks like brown redish color. There are 4 light on a on a board in the middle of the tv behind a bigger board in the middle. Only 3 of the lights come on. Dont know if these is normal. We also unplugged one the cables on the Y Sustain board turn off the tv (in the dark room) then back on and the picture came on but it was very grainey looks like brown redish color. We then turn the tv back off plugged back in the cable turned the light off turend the tv back on and got the same brown redish color font. We did replace one the 250v fuses. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 42 inch Vizio Plasma Pop No Picture
There are several faults which can cause this. One is a bad Z-sustain / X-main, another is low supply voltages possibly from a power supply fault. First, you'll need to take pictures of the TV so everyone knows what they are dealing with. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

As a general rule, the more information you give us, the more help we can give you. When you don't even bother to give us the model number of the TV, I have to assume you don't want to repair it, you just want an excuse to buy a new TV.

Re: 42 inch Vizio Plasma Pop No Picture
That sounds more like a serial number. Look for a number which when inserted into Google would give you a product page or information about your TV. i.e. for a particular LG Plasma I am repairing it is 42PC3D-ZC.Please do not PM me with questions! Looks very typical of a Z-sustain/X-main failure. Can you take pictures of the inside of your TV?Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: 42 inch Vizio Plasma Pop No Picture
Okay that's much more useful - we'll probably use this later when looking for the service manual and other information.
Once you post the pics of the inside of the TV, we can point out some places to make tests.
Do you have a multimeter? If not, now might be a good time to get one as you'll need one for most of these tests. You can buy a multimeter for around $5 in the US... but you'd have to ask someone American. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: 42 inch Vizio Plasma Pop No Picture
I can barely see those images. You need to make them bigger, and take them from the top down. The first board you've photographed looks like the power supply. The second looks a lot like the Z-sustain. There are boards on the left and right hand side of the TV. From the back, the left is the Y-sustain (row driver), and on the right is the Z-sustain (brightness, pre-charge, and erase.) A failure in the Y-sustain causes no picture almost all of the time. A failure in the Z-sustain causes a poor, slow and/or purple/lilac picture.Last edited by tom66; 12-30-2011, 04:05 PM.Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Re: 42 inch Vizio Plasma Pop No Picture
I agree with tom66, the pictures leave a lot to be desired, but they will suffice. The third picture is of the Z-sustain, the overwhelming odds are that has died. They are available on eBay for anywhere from $10 to $120.
There is one adjustment you may have to make when you install the replacement, that requires a DMM.

If you click on the pictures they will get bigger. I think some of the posts I have read on here it might be the Z-sustain. I saw some on ebay. I just hope this is it.I can barely see those images. Re: 42 inch Vizio Plasma Pop No Picture
Hi Please can you look at this thread "Vizio standby light but will not power on" and
you will see there is a problem with whether a cable should be there or not, and if it is there where it goes. I have looked at your pictures but even when enlarged I cannot tell. Can you look at your cables and if possible take close up photos from above of the
sockets CN01 and J9 on your boards and post them on the other thread which concerns the same model, but with a different fault. Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

by KYBOSHPicked up a bahemoth plasma TV not too long ago and just now getting around to looking at it.
No picture but you hear the TV static (white noise) playing loud and clear.
The back was already taken off (and no screws were provided) as the previous owner had already taken a look.
But it seems they didn't get too far and just left it.
When I first took a look I was amazed at how pristine the inside looked.
Its as if the TV had been in a time capsule.
Caps looked like they were just pulled off the self.

by gavricHello, i am working on Vizio M70-C3. It can hardly power on, it takes 15 power button presses or remote. Seems like eeprom problem that I seen before but all reading online says that this tv has power board or main board problem.

by KYBOSHSaved this beast from the landfill this weekend.
Manfactured July 2013 in Mexico.
I love working on plasma TVs.
Its been a while but I was lucky enough to find 2 this week.
The TV powers on and stays on but no picture. Havent checked for sound yet.
No bulging caps although the insides are pretty dusty and the boards are discolored from many years of high heat.
Will start troubleshooting tonight.

by ggil44Hi I inherited a Vizio M65-E0 that isn't working. It must have been dropped on the corner because I found that the infrared circuit had a capacitor with one end broken off of the board and some green corrosion around the plug to the main board. I re-soldered the capacitor and cleaned the corrosion well and tried turning the M65-E0 on and I was successful. My problem is that while the back lights come on and appear to perform local dimming there is no picture or sound. It kind of looks like you are looking at the TV through a very dense fog, where changing the input on the remote will change bright...

by maricmHI all,
hope someone point to the possible issue before I start buying replacement parts.
Tv starts normal and responds to remote fine, PSU voltages mesured fine 19v was 18.9V under load and 19V with main board disconnected.
Backlight stays on all the time,
Sound works fine.
screen keeps changing form black to full picture in about 1sec intervals.
Picture looks fine with no visible artifacts.
I have disconnected backlights and flashlight test confirmed that picture is still doing the same.
