    Sony Bravia LCD Vertical Lines

Model kdl-46hx800 tv just over a year old has two vertical bars on the right half of the screen. The left bar flickers and changes from light gray to black. Sometimes is has a blue thin dotted line running down the side of the bar also. The bars are there from the moment the tv is powered on and do not go away. Also, sometimes the right half has flickering bars, everywhere, but they don't stay. See picture. it is sideways for whatever reason...

Panel or tcon - probably the LCD panel.

is there a test to see which it is w/o buying a TCON. if it matters, the bars are transparent sometimes. I can see the picture behind them.

No, but you can resell the TCON if the symptoms do not change.

Had a problem like that on Toshiba, took it apart down to the LCD panel it self, there some small ribbons that go from the board to the panel. I took a hot air resoldering unit and went over the connections on the panel and it fixed the problem. I covered the panel with a small peace of metal so it wouldn't damage the screen it self. Might give that a try.
