[WD] Model: LTV-30w2 - Orange light, 5 secs after powerup

When you push the power button the blue light comes on and after about 5sec there is a flicker on the screen and then the light turns orange and nothing comes on the screen.

    Manufacturer: Westinghouse Digital
    Model: LTV-30w2
    S/N: W3002DET051307019

I was told to check the inverter board for cracks in solder joints, especially the transformer... I'm not sure if this looks as simple as a solder job...

    Opinions/Ideas?

I'll keep my opinion to myself, you wouldn't appreciate it.

    Ideas- I have several.

    1. A flaw in the inverter, particularly a shorted driver might cause this problem.

    2. This might be a problem with the power supply.

    3. This could be a problem with the main board.

    4. It is REALLY hard to provide meaningful assistance without pictures. It never ceases to amaze me that people will not bother to attach (Use 'Manage Attachments' - below the text entry area) pictures. There are dozens of minor TV brands where documentation is unavailable.

No, sadly I have had family problems. I plan on working on the tv this week, but I have such a hectic schedule at work. Someone on my engineering team took a leave of absence so its been all sorts of bad.

I will keep you all posted.

Sorry to hear about family problems. On the bright side, most of us will still be here when you get the time.

I am having the same problem with my ltv-30w2. blue light, about 5 seconds later the backlight comes on with the input in green in the corner but turns right off and the light turns to amber/orange. I have take some pictures of the back of the powersupply and the main boards, i tried to get the best pictures i could but if you need me to focus in on something specific please let me know.

i have experience working on computers and smaller electronics (ipod, gps, cell phones, etc) but not much with lcd tvs, just changing caps really. so i wanted to get the ideas of a community with more experience than myself before i go messing things up even more than they are. any advice would be much appreciated. thank you.

The pictures of the back side are fine, but I'm going to need 1 picture of the top side of each of these boards.

                    Macht nichts.

On the power supply, the output voltages are listed on the bottom side of the board. If several adjacent pins are shown as having the same voltage, it isn't necessary to check all of them, just check one. Make up a chart, or otherwise label the connectors so you know what voltages come out of each pin. Make sure the voltage does come up to the proper value for each voltage in the brief time the TV is on. Obviously, a voltage that doesn't come up, or one that is low will have to be investigated.

On the main board I have identified a number of voltage regulators. Prepare a chart showing an identifier for each regulator circled in yellow (1 - 7 is fine). Add the part number on each regulator. Again, measure the voltage on each pin of each regulator in the brief time the TV is on. Use the GND contact on the test points I have circled in white for the ground lead. From the part number we can identify the expected output voltage.

One of the regulators is circled in blue. That is a bucking regulator, and you probably won't be able to get meaningful voltages from the pins. What is the part number?

i think i may have shorted it or something because i am not getting anything from the power board and the light is no longer turning on at all. i am not as proficient with tvs as with computers obviously.

Re: [WD] Model: LTV-30w2 - Orange light, 5 secs after powerup

I have the same TV with the same symptoms -- press power on, get Blue light, screen
flashes 1 second and then goes dark, and then the power light turns orange
                        No sound, no video.

I looked over all the boards including the Inverter board under the metal panel and
all the Electrolytic capacitors look good - no bulges, no leaks.

I did measure the voltages on the output of the Power Supply board and I get
                        3V on the 5V, and 8V on the 12V. I do get 24V at 24V

I have an ESR meter that I purchased off Ebay and all the Electrolytics have
acceptable resistance. I restore old 1950 vintage vacuum tube radios but
these flat-panel TVs are something I have no experience repairing.

Any ideas on what to do next?

                        Thanks

                        Carl

                                Are the voltages ok?
I do get a momentary white flash on the screen on power up - then
the indicator LED changes from Blue to Orange.
                                Capacitors look OK. Any ideas???

                                Thanks

From those voltage readings, can we deduce which of the three
                                  boards is the problem?
