I have a vertical line that spans the left side of the display, about the size of a thread. On both sides of this line the picture is clear, but has a lighter contrast on the left compared to the right. All caps check good on the board using vom

A bad driver or a bad bond between the flex circuit and the glass panel; more likely the former. In either case it is considered unrepairable.

What is a flex circuit, and is there a hidden menu for this unit I can play with to adjust for driver probs?

No, this failure is purely a mechanical failure and cannot be fixed through any menu. The flex circuit is the ribbon that connects to the glass panel itself. Once an lcd panel develops a problem like this there is no repair.

The heart of an LCD display is a glass panel with LCD cells etched into it. The flex circuit connects the tcon board to the glass panel, and has driver ICs bonded to it.

No adjustment is possible, and as far as I know, no repair is possible.

                Thanks Plainbill,
Did not know of the ribbon connections referred to as a flex circuit. So the tconn is not a possible fix, because the picture is great other than that.

                Thanks again!

No it is a panel failure.

would this be the same if it was on both sides of the screen? or could that be a main board issue?

ive got a lcd with sort of the same but its not as bad as that picture you cant really notice it that much, but its there

Nintendo 2DS SD Card Reader issue. Problem on the clock line?
                      by Technomancer
I have a 2DS that I am working on that has a problem reading SD cards. It knows that card is in the slot (which, means the detect pin is working anyway) but it says it can’t read the card.

Here is what I have done so far:
-Tried SD card in another 2DS and on PC, works great.
-Tried piggybacking another SD card slot (just so I didn’t have to take the other one off), same issue.
-Compared voltage drop readings from a working 2DS to the faulty one. All reads are very close except one, the 7th pin from the left, with the pins closest to you, which I believe...

                      by cubytus
                      Hi to all,

I was given this TV, an entry-level 4K 50" set. Some have criticized its lack of contrast and relatively poor colour rendering, but for my needs, it's very decent.

I reset everything to factory settings, but this line keeps on fading in and out when watching a streaming channel from the Tizen firmware. Interestingly, it only happens when TV is warm, after about 1h45 of it being turned on.

Watching a movie from an external source doesn't trigger the line as easily (needs 2 hours), and from a normal viewing distance, is hardly noticeable. It...

                      TCL 49S405 double image
                      by howardc64
LCD displays a 2nd image slighty offset vertically. And multiple pairs of black lines along the bottom. Probably common as google "TCL 49S405 double image" pulls up this ifixit post ( link ) with identical ( nearly, but their fault seems to be on the other half of the panel than mine ) problem without solution.

This one looks to be a more difficult to diagnose because most? of TCON seems integrated ( CSOT BGA on buffer baord) into the left panel edge board ( looking from rear of TV) There are 2 buffer boards for each 1/2 of the screen. Main connects to the left buffer board...

                      Hello,

I know some might say... just buy another one. Sell it as parts..!

So had this AMP for quite some time. Recently I saw light smoke coming out of the AMP. Had my fire extinguisher close by. Just kidding. Turned immediately all devices off from mains.
Let things cool a bit, and opened up the amp device. I clearly saw on the main board which hosts the 5X amp (5.1), 3 10 ohms 1W resistors had their leads looking black, while the rest of the remaining 2 x 10 ohms were brownish as being installed from factory.

Spent some time downloading the Service...

All left and right refers to looking from rear of TV (or looking from front with TV upside down)
                      • TV came with vertical bars and no image. Found faulty TVS on left buffer board. Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.
                      • Disconnecting left and right buffer board potentially reveals problems on both sides with different signals (unless this T-Con require jumper like Samsung FB_TRDY1&3) Fault
