    Vizio Plasma VP42

This is my first time posting but have done my best to search through this forum for a possible identification of my problem and to learn the proper process for asking for help. So here goes, and please excuse my lack of understanding of the TV terminology....

    The issue:

I'm pretty sure I heard the pop that is associated with plasma tv's going bad...

The TV still turns on and off, has a picture and sound, however the picture is bad. When first turned on it has the "oil spill" black spots that eventually fade away into a really badly washed out picture (pinkish). the color also has a psychedelic look....

I've searched the internet but could not find the same specific problem, but this forum seems to offer the best info.

I am attaching pictures of the TV after removing the back. I don't believe any of the capacitors are bulging and the fuses are not clear (solid white).

    Thanks any feedback.

Your TV was made by LG. You can find out which models correspond to your
Vizo by searching board numbers. Restart your searchs using those numbers. The yield might not be exact but you will be find information that you can use.

The second picture pretty much establishes it. It's a 6871QZH056A, or B, or C, or maybe a 6871QZH956A or B - all essentially the same card. While a picture of the screen would be required to confirm it, the description matches what happens when the hybrid on the Z-Sustain blows.

Thanks, so the actual part number on the board (as shown on the white sticker) is

        EBR32642801
        ZSUS
        PD42071K010958

Is it safe to say that this board is interchangeable with what you quoted....6871QZH056A, or B, or C, or maybe a 6871QZH956A or B - all essentially the same card

Looking to either purchase replacement or have this one serviced (coppelltv on ebay).

        Thanks!

You should read this from Coppell TV since it was just posted last week.

That was an informative read, bottom line is he is recommending the replacement of both boards as they have a finite lifespan.

So, because I'm trying to do this on the cheap, I decided to just replace the zsus board using the repair service from coppelltv on ebay. Hopefully I'll be able to just plug the board back in and it will work, but I saw a thread regarding adjusting the Z bias, is that something that is required?

Yes. It is a very simple adjustment if you have a DLL. The LG Plasma Quick Reference Alignment Handbook gives all the steps.

                Re: Vizio Plasma VP42

Great news (for me anyway). My adventure seems to have concluded with a happy ending. I went with PlainBill's suggestions, pulled out the zsus board, went to ebay and purchased coppelltv's board repair, sent it out last Wed, received it today ~ 2+ business days later, put it in the TV and much to my amazement the picture is back.

I'm not sure it's totally perfect but it looks good.

I have never attempted TV repair before (lots of computer stuff but not deep electronics)... and this was a little daunting but I had nothing to lose. It turned out great!

                Thanks for a great forum!

I don't have any personal experience with CoppellTV, but from reading their blogs and their auctions, they seem like a reputable company. Good to hear you received good service from them.

                    Re: Vizio Plasma VP42

The communications were a bit sketchy with CoppellTV as I had to email a couple of times to get the mailing instructions... and even when I got the board back there was no note or receipt or anything... but the end result was awesome, the board was fixed and works!

Bottom line was for just about $70.00 I was able to fix something with absolutely no experience. I had already ordered a replacement TV from amazon for $700.00 and decided to cancel and see if I could fix it within a week. Saved some money for sure.

                      by KYBOSH
Picked up a bahemoth plasma TV not too long ago and just now getting around to looking at it.
No picture but you hear the TV static (white noise) playing loud and clear.
The back was already taken off (and no screws were provided) as the previous owner had already taken a look.
But it seems they didn't get too far and just left it.

When I first took a look I was amazed at how pristine the inside looked.
Its as if the TV had been in a time capsule.
Caps looked like they were just pulled off the self.
Copper coils had no sign of corrosion on...

                      by gavric
Hello, i am working on Vizio M70-C3. It can hardly power on, it takes 15 power button presses or remote. Seems like eeprom problem that I seen before but all reading online says that this tv has power board or main board problem.

When tv powers on vizio V logo shows nice on whole screen. picture 1
When it goes into tv mode it only shows good picture on left side of screen, right is all scrabbled up. pic 2
When i start youtube picture shows on left side fine, right is all scrambled. pic 2

I love working on plasma TVs.
Its been a while but I was lucky enough to find 2 this week.

The TV powers on and stays on but no picture. Havent checked for sound yet.
No bulging caps although the insides are pretty dusty and the boards are discolored from many years of high heat.
                      Will start troubleshooting tonight.

Vizio M65-E0 No Picture, No Sound
                      by ggil44
Hi I inherited a Vizio M65-E0 that isn't working. It must have been dropped on the corner because I found that the infrared circuit had a capacitor with one end broken off of the board and some green corrosion around the plug to the main board. I re-soldered the capacitor and cleaned the corrosion well and tried turning the M65-E0 on and I was successful. My problem is that while the back lights come on and appear to perform local dimming there is no picture or sound. It kind of looks like you are looking at the TV through a very dense fog, where changing the input on the remote will change bright...
