LCD backlight goes off after 10 sec to 10 min

I have a Conia brand LCD TV - I think it a rebadge name by some importer.
Anyway, the backlight drops out after a while. If you switch it off and on
again, it lasts about 10 seconds before off. If I wait till next morning, when it
is cooler, then maybe goes 20-30 seconds. But the strange thing is if I leave it
for a few weeks, then try again, it lasts 10 minutes before the backlight
goes out. Does this sound like a bad electrolytic in the backlight power
supply? I have search in LCD monitor forums, and it seems usually the
backlight goes off after 2 second or less.
The reason I ask is that the case of this TV is a prick of a thing. It has 2
halves clipped together in such a way that two people would be required
to lever it apart with small screwdrivers. I am hoping it is a simple fault to
justify the hassle of getting at bad components.

You're gonna have to get into this thing, theres no way around it. I've noticed some cheaper, non-brandname sets have unusual cases and weird ways to properly open them. Once you do, post pics of the boards inside using "Manage Attatchments" on the post page.

This sounds similar to a problem I had with a Philips LCD, although the 'On' time was often much shorter. That was due to a bad transformer in the inverter.
