    Onn 100012586 vertical lines

I found another TV by the road and took it home to try and fix it. This one has vertical lines as seen in the pic. I've disconnected both of the ribbons going from the tcon to panel one at a time and still see lines. Is the tcon board bad?

Probably means it's panel. Vertical lines is bad news usually.

That would be a bummer. I also disconnected both left and right at the same time from tcon and the lines went away, though I'm not sure if that means anything useful?

Anything i can test or check?

Google fixing TV with tape, watch video and try to get a picture using tape method.

If you disconnect both tcon boards and lines go away it's because you have nothing going to panel at all so the screen isn't going to do anything without power. You'll see the backlight potentially because the power board supplys that.

Ok that makes sense about both sides being disconnected.

So I'm guessing disconnecting/reconnecting the ribbon cable did this? Now one side shows picture.

Hey that's good! Now try the tape method on the other ribbon cables then. You may be able to partially get working. Check buffer boards for shorts

              This is very interesting...
One side causing distortion on the other side.
Dont think ive seen that before.

They should be independent unless its an issue with the T-con board itself right?

Y'all will find this interesting too. I tried the tape fix and if the right screen side of the tcon(tape on ribbon cable) is connected the picture does not show and there are lines on the left side which works if only that sides ribbon cable is connected.

                I've attached pics

So I've looked for how to test for shorts but haven't found much so how do i test the left one?

I found a short in STV capacitor but it looks like it's broken. What does the 101 on them mean and how can i find a replacement?

Small components like that will test short sometimes when they just are supposed to be very low resistance. Make sure that's the case. Like the one with the zero on it should basically test short. What's the other 101 test as

101 is an SMD resistor, the resistance of which is 100 Ohm.

I tested the ones around it and all of them are 100 ohms the one that's short is 0.

Ah ok that makes sense thank you for the info! I'll be pumped if replacing it fixes the TV I just wish i had checked the buffer board or driver board before buying a tcon replacement.
