    LG 42LW5500 glitching screen

    Hello everyone.

Did anyone seen this kind of fault before?

As you can see the menu graphics are distorted and the background is this dark greyed striped mess.

I found that these TVs have a common problem with the mainboard, especially with the CPUs soldering.

Should I try to reflow it with my hot air station and see it if it helps?

    Thank you

    UPDATE

So I reflowed the CPU and the XD engine on the board, with no luck sadly. The graphics stayed exactly the same.

However, I thought I reflow the RAM next to the XD engine IC and while the graphics are still faulty, it became different, like no LG logo appearing. Could it be that the RAM became faulty and that's why it producing these weird graphics error?

You may have killed the ram, I killed it on a sony board a while back, tried reflowing at about 425 f, tried the board again, no sign of life at all, before the reflow it was partially working.

That's the thing. It does "work", it's just the menu and things are all pixelated purple boxes. It's still turns on, it's just now the artifacts are more severe.

It's similar to when a gpu memory is getting corrupted in computers. That's why I assuming it's the memory.

Also, the previous owner told me, that it had already bad image quality when he bought it's just became this bad by now.

I would have advised you to turn your hor air station down past reflow temperatures and get some heat into the processor to see if it mades a difference.

I've seen faulty gamma ICs on the tcon give that sort of image.

Is it a decent station and how proficient are you with it ?

I already tried a different t-con board and made no difference.

My hot air station is a 858D. I using it for 2 years now and I know its not the best for big ICs, but I also have a mechanic hot plate station and I usually preheat the board with it to around 130C to help the hot air station.

Thank you. I'm probably gonna try and replace the RAM IC. I have a donor board which have the same kind of RAM just a 2GB one. This board has 1G chips.

Do you think I can replace with a bigger capacity one or should I get a same capacity one?

                  I don't know but that's a very good question.
