    Caps in Antec PSU

I was recently replacing a fan in my Antec 350 watt psu and while i had the cover off i noticed that two of the caps are bending sideways and leaking from the top. I didnt notice any instability but I'm wondering wether everyone thinks its safe to replace the caps. They are Fuhjyyu 4700uf 10 volt i think. I've never replaced a cap before but i solder and mod quite a bit and I'm willing to give it a shot if someone could point out where to buy the proper caps since i have no idea what to buy.

        Re: Caps in Antec PSU

to tell you where to buy it is useful to know which country you are in. Since you are in the States you can get caps from the forum owner http://www.badcaps.net

here are some other choices :
        -------
        North America - Allied Electronics - http://www.alliedelec.com/
        North America - Computek - http://www.computekinc.us/
        North America - Digikey - http://www.digikey.com/
        North America - Mouser - http://www.mouser.com/
North America - Newark In One - http://www.newark.com/
        -------

you will want one of these brands.

        ------------
3.3 Reference of Good Capacitor Series for Motherboard Applications

Aluminium Electrolytic Radial Capacitors (Liquid Electrolyte)

Nichicon - PM, PW, HV, HD, HC, HE, HM, HN HZ (we do not recommend using HM or HN series presently due to early fails of those series.)

Nippon Chemicon - NRSZ, NRSX, NRSY, NRSJ, NRSG

        NRSX is probably the best

United Chemi-con - KZE, KZH, KZG, KZJ, KZM, LXV, LXY, LXZ

KZE are used on many boards recently.

Panasonic - FC, FM, FK, FA

Panasonic FC are highly available and recommended.

Rubycon - MBZ, MCZ, ZL, ZLG ZLH, ZA, YXH, YXG

Rubycon ZL are highly available and recommended. MBZ, MCZ, ZLH, ZA are highly recommended but difficult to find.

I finished installing my new Nichicon PW caps and I wanted to let everyone know it was a success! The power supply once again can hold its rails rock solid. It was tough since the Nichicons are about twice as big as the Fuhjyyu caps that were in there but i only needed to replace two. I bought enough o recap all of them but didnt since it didnt need it just yet. I'll just have to keep my eyes on it. pics later if i can

Why do Antec use such trash? I know they're in my Antec TrueBlue 480 as well, and that cost a hell of a lot of money for a PSU.

I can understand it in the cheap PSUs but really, don't they want a good reputation? Isn't that worth a couple of cents?

I got something to tell you guys. One time at work an Antec TrueControl 550W power supply blew its transformer and all its caps! Even the tiny caps blew. It suffered catastrophic damage. It was also a horrible smell of power supply death.

Most Antec power supplies are actually manufacturered by CWT (Channel Well Technology), and that company loves Fuhjyyu caps. TruePowers are manufacturered my CWT, so they contain these Fuhjyyu caps.

I know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.

For today's considerations, I have a Seasonic B12 BC-550 [A551bcafh] 550 Watt ATX power supply for you (click on links for full size images).

It's a modern ATX unit with fixed (non-modular) cables and an 80-plus bronze certificate. Here's the label:

                            Hello,

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."
                            ...

                            by ajdrenter
In my search for a proper 5v heavy ATX power supply, I selected an old Antec SU-380 that I've had in storage for a long time. Opening the power supply reveals a couple bulged capacitors. I removed all the caps and made a map for myself. I found the datasheet for the PCE TUR series in this thread:
                            https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=14159
It says these are general purpose, so I assume I can replace them with any general purpose capacitors, but I don't really know anything about power supply circuits or reading capacitor datasheets. Despite this, I've been shopping for replacements:...

                            Hello!

I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.

The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.

I have studied the board and...

I'm trying to repair two old VCRs, they both have bad caps. One has leaky ones, the other would barely run until I subbed in some caps from another power supply I had laying around (though they are the wrong values). This vcr works for an hour or two, but then the power supply starts whining and the picture gets lines in it. I didn't replace all the secondary caps, so another voltage might still be problematic, or the values I used are too far off.
I've been on mouser and digikey but the options are a bit overwhelming. I just need some new ones that will work. They don't need to be top quality,...
