Thanks, ya I didnt even think about testing those since they visually looked fine, but that seemed to power it back up

        It's the slim desktop type

for the power supply or case?

what form factor? (mini-tower, small (thin with standard optical size), or uber-thin (thin optical drive)

esp in the sff psu fan failure is the most common cause of death.
it stops and the caps cook.
              get a quality replacement.

                Re: Dell GX270 Power Supplies

GX270 PSUs have a hamster wheel fan, not a standard one, so finding a replacment may not be easy. The last GX270 PSU I opened had a nidec fan, so it kind of surprises me that it failed here.

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

i thought the hamster wheel was the case fan in the slimmer units...

                          Re: Dell GX270 Power Supplies

They're called squirrel cage fans... or, more appropriately, centrifugal blowers - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centrifugal_fan

c_hegge - that's not the only type of PSU used in the GX270's. The smallest ones had a standard bladed fan.

I know what they're really called. I just call them that because they look like a hamster wheel.

What I didn't know is that there was more than one type of GX270 PSU as the one I posted before is the only type I've ever seen or heard of.
