NICE WORK!!! I would have just decided that it was daqmaged beyond repair and thrown it out.
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

I agree. A lot of people would probably think that this repair was impossible. As usual, great job everell! I really admire your work, especially the PCB fix.

Yes, it was a challenging project. I hope it will inspire some new ideas and creative thinking.

I talked with the guy I got it from. He said it had been used on a computer that ran 24/7. He said his customer came in one morning to a room full of smoke - the computer was still on. I think the capacitor across the bridge diodes had a lot to do with this failure - so unusual. Also the two coils burned differently. One of the coils was making contact with the capacitor that failed.

I added some silicone to keep the coils more stationary, and to keep the new capacitor from touching the coils. Final reassembly and this project will be over.

          Good day, everell!

In time for my cookie break, I was comparing the original and restored condition, the former blue film capacitor sure did big damage. But it should be 1uf or less only.

I did some work reviving my delta dps300kb from blown varistor, from my own folly years back. With some reading from the knowledgable posts in the forum, I did managed to get them back and running.

Lol, now I killed another old one, but I take a week break or scrap it :p

Keep it up! work is good.

Good morning Chaoz. Just out of curiosity, where are you from?

Another of my interesting projects from last November is the thread titled "Powerman resurrected" The 5vsb transformer was shorted and lots of parts blown. Couldn't find a replacement transformer, so this project shows what you can do to fix it anyway. Just do a search in this Power Supply section for Powerman and you will find it.

LOL! I am on the other side of earth

I read your thread on the powerman, great job again. Wish I have the patience and knowledge of yours.

I was cleaning out my cupboard these few weeks, big load of dead pc parts!

I was trying to do some work on my old epox 8rga. Spent hours reading and doing transistor/IC transfer, but the southbridge is still dead. typical nf2 self destruct.

There is another abit nf7 but it cant post. may be a bad memory mosfet or controller IC. I need a 100x magnifier to read these...

              Cross my fingers

                Hello,
                Good job!!!
I exactly have the same kind off PSU, but in 410W, both borads are same, in my case nothing was burn but no output, evenif i have more than 300V cc on the first card...

Do you have a schematic of this PSU ?
                Thank you

On May 8, 2010, I remember there being a surprise T-storm to the north, in Springfield, Vermont, with hail, possibly a storm system that was related southward and westward.

The next day, on May 9, 2010, the daytime temp was way below normal and was windy up here.
