• Re: Looking for MarCon 'CE-BS Series' Capacitor's Datasheet

heya pcbonez, good to hear from you.

I saw some schematics with these in the power supply/switching-transistors section, but I still need to be sure if there is a datasheet.

I am hoping these are not audio caps, bipolars or high-frequency caps :p

I've tried mailing chemi-con but there's just no reply.

  • Looking for MarCon 'CE-BS Series' Capacitor's Datasheet

Hello mates, I have some MarCon capacitors which I am planning to use, but I am trying to get hold of the datasheet before I can progress any further.

They were made by Toshiba Marconi division I believed before year 2000 era. After which, they were bought over by Nippon Chemi-con.

Mine are 35v 330uf 105 degrees. They have low esr and are well-made, with a V-vent and brown PCB bottom.

Planning to use them in power supply but I am not sure of the frequency response.

If anyone have links to old...

  • Re: NEC LCD3000 30" monitor (problems and repair)

When I started to dismantle the cables and connectors, i found this metal connector on the system board. There are some melted solder traces, might be due to heat-stress.

    bare board with connectors.

is there a way to test the ccfl using a multimeter?

Seems to be clean, other than some minor brown marks on the soldering of the transformers.

    please ignore...

  • NEC LCD3000 20" monitor (problems and repair)

    Hello folks,

I have managed to land my hands on this 30" LCD monitor, it does not have high resolution but it provides very comfortable reading.

Monitor displays graphics well, in resolution 1280x768. However, there are 3 problems which I have noted :-

    Problem 01
    - The main problem is that the monitor is displaying the picture but it had shifted the display to the southwest, leaving a 1-inch row on top, and a 1-inch column on the right.

I had tried to configure the monitor via the menu button, picture positioning but...

  • Re: Recoating a Tip?

I've used an Antex copper pointed tip, for my 230v mains soldering iron. It's good quality but it disintegrate itself after every use.

*BLAH* After 6 months and it is gone. my $$$.

On the other hand, the tip refresher/activator/tinner is as expensive as a new tip....

  • Re: To Hakko 937 holders! adjusting tolerance? Changing from F to C?help!

There are plentiful of clone soldering irons, some are priced as little as 1/8 the cost price of a Hakko 936 / 937.

I dont see the reason why you ordered the soldering iron from China when you are from UK. UK has a big suppy of good used soldering equipment.

  • Re: (ask) DELL NPS305bb 3,3v sense mod no go..

looks like a Delta but numbered like an NPS. Built in 2004 i believed.

This particular one is sensing from +5vsb.

Delta and NPS are good PSU.

NB: I have one which needs complusory replacement of a taicon cap for start * search the forum for more clues

  • Re: samsung dvd recorder sr150m

    Hey, thank you retiredcaps!

Good archive of instructions, but no one is troubleshooting the dvd player's pcb

The dvd writer has a pretty standard profile, IDE interface, 4 pin molex and 3/4 size. I may attempt to swap another drive in.

I need to verified the status of the power supply board, just hope the trouble doesnt starts from there.

Update the thread when I made some progress.

    Cheers!

  • Re: samsung dvd recorder sr150m

    hi peeps!

i have a faulty LG DVD Recorder RH1777s with me, problem is unable to read disc, just as plainbill mentioned.

    Power Supply Module :-

I checked the voltages to the hdd and dvd-writer, and the recorder has stable 12vdc and 5vdc.

However, I noticed some odd measurements of the voltages to the logic board. those 13.5, 33.5, -28.5va etc. Are these in AC or DC? I measured using a dmm in dc mode, but i am not 100%.

There seems to be a surge when the recorder is on stand-by....

  • Re: DELL 1907 FPT power supply

alexxanna, how come you are not doing the usual troubleshooting procedure?

first of all, verify psu(output voltages) in FULL working condition before working the logic/inverter board ?

Bill always give good motivation for anyone into repair! A+++

  • Re: Snap in Capacitors

the 1st picture shows 450v 150uf x2, outputting 300uf. I believe parallel caps have a longer lifespan compared to a single cap. I see nothing wrong.

the second picture shows at least 3 bloated caps. This is the problem when they bloat; they lose capacitance and gets high resistance. Then they make the semiconductors take in more current than usual.

  • Re: dead arcade (peter chou) power supply

verify that the voltage after the 2 big caps, outputting approximately 300vdc. (Careful)

And you can check the nearby caps providing power to the tl494.

there are caps which die without bloating.

  • Re: HP DPS-340CB A - lots of smoke!

LOL! I am on the other side of earth

I read your thread on the powerman, great job again. Wish I have the patience and knowledge of yours.

I was cleaning out my cupboard these few weeks, big load of dead pc parts!

I was trying to do some work on my old epox 8rga. Spent hours reading and doing transistor/IC transfer, but the southbridge is still dead. typical nf2 self destruct.

There is another abit nf7 but it cant post. may be a bad memory mosfet or controller IC. I need a 100x...

  • Re: pinout and voltage for STK5472 IC?

I repaired the psu of a dvd player before. Not as complex but there are couple of rails of power... and the logic board is picky on the voltage range.

the inductor shorted(yes, puny coils) and it had 5 - 8 bad caps. did the replacement and it begins to work again. i remembered the psu did some odd voltages... 14? 21?

    hope it helps.

  • Re: K-Mex 450W

Your unit is very similiar to the lower end FSP, especially with the 12v sensing fan.

I have encountered a good number which simply didnt charge anymore, eg taicons, fuhjyyu etc. And I was reading on the lcd forum and the primary 400v cap is another one. I know it is a pain to desolder+test+re-solder but there is no better way.

Lesser known capacitor manufacturers do not follow the protocol, that an expended product needs to POP or VENT. When they failed, they do not display any physical evidence of popped top vent, protruding bottom...

  • Re: HP DPS-340CB A - lots of smoke!

    Good day, everell!

In time for my cookie break, I was comparing the original and restored condition, the former blue film capacitor sure did big damage. But it should be 1uf or less only.

I did some work reviving my delta dps300kb from blown varistor, from my own folly years back. With some reading from the knowledgable posts in the forum, I did managed to get them back and running.

Lol, now I killed another old one, but I take a week break or scrap it :p

Keep it up! work is good.

  • Re: tagan dead, caps to blame

Thre regular flavours for the reservoir caps are 680uf@200V x2 or 800uf@200V x 2. these are 22mm diameter. The >450W are probably using 330@400V single cap.

1000uf@200V is on the rare side, which is probably why they are more expensive. Not quite worth the effort at $28, unless you cant get a replacement quality 400W PSU.

You might need to check other components around the capacitors as well - the resistors and varistors in the series.

    Be careful.

  • Re: Dell NPS-250KB caps

Perhaps the voltage is too low after the repair, check your +5, +12V rails.

I have a delta as well, they can be tuned via one of the POTS.

  • Re: Dell NPS-250KB caps

WHen your system restarts... what does it do? Can you describe?

    - system restarts by itself from windows ?
    - system BSOD, does memory dump and restarts ?
    - system shutdown by itself ?

do you think you might be at the wrong side of the problem?

    cheers
