    Globalscale Sheeva Plug

This device is only a few years old but it started losing it's Ethernet connection intermitently. Just recently it was getting worse and would only stay on line for about a minute before dropping the connection. I thought I'd open her up and see if there was anything obvious.

Surprise surprise it's a flipping CapXon. Bulge at the top said just about everything. The ESR meter tested open circuit! Unfortunately I don't have these in stock and Ebay is a definite no no! All rubbish Chinese makes or silly prices for 'possible' good ones.
It's going to have to wait till my next order to RS or Farnell's so that I can be sure of getting a decent one.

It looks pretty cheap in there, the first generation was a cheaper PSU. It looks like Sheevaplugs die due to capacitor fails.

Does it even have a mains fuse?

        No mains fuse!!!!

OK on RS too. I'll probably still wait till I need a few more bits which won't be long I'm sure.

Actually it has got a fuse, one of those tiny ones that looks like a ceramic resistor. Didn't spot it untill I had a closer look.
Once the main cap was swapped out it wouldn't fire up. After a few power cycles it did burst into life once so I suspected the other caps were probably all shot too. After applying a little warmth to see which cap(s) it was I was greeted with a quiet 'crack' and it was no more! The PWM chip had blown plus a couple of SMD resistors and not worth the effort to fix. The chip is a STK A6053.
I've bought a 2A wall wart PSU which I'll use instead. Surfing the web shows these PSU's are failing all the time!

Looks a lot older than a few years old, looks like 2010, by the digits printed on the green PCB. Looks like the usual 4-digit time-of-manufacturing. On the far left photo, on the bottom left of the transformer.

And my question. It will be fine to plug pc in this new apartment with that fuse box,i think it is aluminium, right?

PC WILL BE: Rtx 4090,14900K,1600W PSU

It looks like this ( screen from internet ). Looks like this, not sure i dont take a pic from there. Can i plug pc with that one?

MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro Turns on functions then turns off when I plug in USB C cable
              by Stephen
MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro Turns on functions then turns off when I plug in USB C cable to reset the computer. I disconnect the battery fully and then reconnect it and it won't turn back on. After letting it sit for a day I plug the battery back up, and the MagSafe 3 cable and it powers on and stays ons, once I plug in a USB C cable into the port closes to the MagSafe port it turns off and the Amber light turns off and won't turn on. No water damage, nothing, I want to do a DFU restore to wipe the computer since the customer stated they did an update and ever since it just decided to not work...

Repair of Sign WiFi Smart Plug PCB: SA-P302A v1.2 due to bad caps - with schematic
              by Per Hansson
I have repaired a Sign WiFi Smart Plug with model number: SNSM-WASINGLE sold by Spares Nordic AB in Sweden.
The fault condition was that the device gave no signs of life: pressing the push button did not cycle the internal relay and the blue LED did not come on and it was not seen on the WiFi network.
The fault was very simple, capacitor C3 on the PCB with writing "KSJ" and "LOWESR" had literally blown its top off, after replacing it the device works fine again!

As I find linear high voltage regulator designs interesting I drew up the attached schematic...

Lithium 12v tool battery charger... no negative connection?
              by budwich
I have a drill and battery but no charger so I bought a "universal charger" 120ac in ... 12vdc out (not really universal in lithium world). Anyway it has three contacts, positive, negative and "T" (temperature sensor). I connected those contacts to the contacts on the battery. No charging happened and only the status light is on (green solid) which the label indicates "100% charged".... but the battery isn't near that at around 9v and dying. There doesn't appear to be any difference whether the battery is connected or not. I got suspicious and pulled the...
