Re: Tannoy Reveal 6D
Well, after starting this thread all those years ago my other 6D failed the other day with the speaker cone almost jumping out the box and a loud hum.
On strip down I found the -15v supply resistor had failed (220R 5W). When replaced I noticed it was running far to warm for my liking. This was due to the digital board which I don't use so it was disconnected as I couldn't be bothered to fault it.
All now fine.

Re: Dell laptop LA90PE0-01 charger repair
Thanks so much for this thread. My charger was intermittent and then it wouldn't supply hardly any current to charge the battery and would switch off.
It must have taken a good three hours to get the case off and dig out all the white plastic but the good bit was finding the 0 Ohm resistor open circuit. I didn't have an 0603 in stock so an 0805 went in and all was well. I also changed the 47uF 35v cap as it was showing a high ESR (approx 1.5 Ohms) which got a lot worse with a touch of freezer....

Re: Vox mini 3 amp
You're welcome, glad you managed to get it sorted.

Re: Vox mini 3 amp
I think it was just a .bmp file which any graphics package will open ie Paint or even Word.
Glad the info has been useful.

Re: Vox mini 3 amp
Hi Adalberto,
All the info is in this thread. It's very simple as the design is basically the same as the IC spec sheet.
Good luck
Bob

Re: Vox mini 3 amp
No, they all went I'm afraid.
The low ESR cap was necessary otherwise there was internal feedback. I did document this way back in the thread. The type you need is shown in the installation instructions. I can't remember the exact one off the top of my head but if you're doing it on breadboard you won't be using SMD components anyway.

Hi Yvan, as the post above says I won't be making anymore.
Happy Easter to you too.

Hi, I'm afraid I don't make them anymore. I posted all the build details a little way back in this thread so people could make their own.
Cheers

Re: Vox mini 3 amp
Have you checked the resistor is ok? The only other thing would be the diodes.

Re: Vox mini 3 amp
Hi, not looked at these for a long time so I can't remember what was on the small board? I'm thinking there was just a diode to prevent reverse voltage being applied but I don't have a unit easily accesible to check. Post a pic then it should be easy to see what might be wrong.

Re: Vox mini 3 amp
I doubt very much I'll be making any more of these so I'm going to publish the installation instructions for anyone who wants to make their own. There is no schematic as such as it's so simple. It is based on the SSM2305 and the schematic is in the application notes.
If you do make your own, post a pic here for others to see.
Stay well
Bob...

Re: Vox mini 3 amp
Hi, unfortunately I don't have any more made at present. If I get more requests I will do another batch but demand has tailed off over the last year or so.
I'll send you a PM.

Re: Globalscale Sheeva Plug
Actually it has got a fuse, one of those tiny ones that looks like a ceramic resistor. Didn't spot it untill I had a closer look.
Once the main cap was swapped out it wouldn't fire up. After a few power cycles it did burst into life once so I suspected the other caps were probably all shot too. After applying a little warmth to see which cap(s) it was I was greeted with a quiet 'crack' and it was no more! The PWM chip had blown plus a couple of SMD resistors and not worth the effort to fix. The chip is a STK A6053.
I've bought a 2A wall wart...

Re: Vox mini 3 amp
Hi Arnold,
Unfortunately I've just recently sold the last one. I've not got any plans of making more unless there is at least 5 requests. Keep an eye on this page for any updates.
I'll send you a PM.
Cheers
Bob

Re: Globalscale Sheeva Plug
No mains fuse!!!!
OK on RS too. I'll probably still wait till I need a few more bits which won't be long I'm sure.

Globalscale Sheeva Plug
This device is only a few years old but it started losing it's Ethernet connection intermitently. Just recently it was getting worse and would only stay on line for about a minute before dropping the connection. I thought I'd open her up and see if there was anything obvious.
Surprise surprise it's a flipping CapXon. Bulge at the top said just about everything. The ESR meter tested open circuit! Unfortunately I don't have these in stock and Ebay is a definite no no! All rubbish Chinese makes or silly prices for 'possible' good ones.
It's going to have to wait till my next...

Re: Vox mini 3 amp
One thing to be aware of, if you're not already, is be careful about what you connect to the speaker output. Both speaker wires are above ground potential and if you plug the speaker output into anything with a ground on one side you'll pop the O/P stage!
