How does this PSU look?

I just got a used Sparkle FSP400-60GN. I opened it up and one cap is bulging/leaking. How does the build quality look - will it be a good PSU once the caps are replaced? And would those 2 giant black Teapo LXK 200V 1000μF caps need to be replaced too?

When it comes to heatsinks, heavy metal is good. Those look good. The 2SC4110 switch transistors are nice and beefy, too.

^ but that one is a FSP400-60GLN, which appears to be a completely different platform with Active PFC. Yours has the oldschool voltage-doubler circuit (the two 200V caps on the primary), which IMO is a lot more dependable.

On that note... No, you do not need to replace the Teapo LXK, 200V, 1000μF caps, as they shouldn't give you any issues because the PSU not have APFC. Also, at 1000 uF, that's more than enough for a 400 Watt unit. So your hold-up time should be pretty good.

Just replace the output caps as well as some of the small e-caps too. I'm not faimilar with this model, so I can't tell you if the 5VSB circuit uses a 2-transistor design or not (and whether it has a critical cap or not), but if it does, you might need to replace the small caps for the 5VSB circuit as well. Other than that, it should be a solid PSU.

From what I know, Topcat (this site's admin and owner) still does recapping jobs, though I think it is mostly motherboards. Not sure if he does PSUs for customers (I think he does). I suppose it doesn't hurt to ask, of course.

Alternatively, I could do it too (if you like), since I live in the Northern VA area... though that may not be that close, depending on where you live in the DC area. And I am also not an official repair shop or business - I do repairs mostly for myself, friends, and relatives. So if you are looking for an official repair place, I probably don't count. But I've done my fair share of PSUs.

Anyways, feel free to send me a PM if you want to go the local route.
