Hi.
Im trying to repair this power supply that went bad over two years ago and was used in a bitcoin mining rig, connected in parallel with a 750w thermaltake psu.(They were running 6 R9-280X AMD Graphics cards)
The board had black marks in the 24 pin connector. However, only the 1200w psu was damaged. It was sent to repair, since i had no experience in psu repair.
Main switchers replaced and it ran for a couple months until it failed again. It now attempts to start but shuts down immediately.
This time, I want to repair it it myself. I have a background in electronics, but I have been working in IT for 10 years now, so my knowledge is a bit rusty and outdated.
I have tested the PFC Mosfets, the main switchers, diodes, secondary rectifier mosfets, capacitors and appear to be fine.
you can see the PSU description in this link
I must be overlooking something. I have desoldered and tested almost every component on the main board.
This unit has a controller daughter board, and i suspect the problem to be there, but I dont know how to test the ICs. Like I said, I have no experience in repairing smps units.
Any input is greatly appreciated, as this effort is more for the learning than anything. I actually will have no use for the psu once its working(if it does).
