    pc power supply

    to the gurus,
    i have a problem with my psu and i cannot pinpoint the failing components.i test my psu without any load,the problem is once i short pin 14 and pin 15, the psu just ran for a seconds but i still got a 5volts standby.i already checked all the capacitors,diodes and transistors at secondary and all are good.im just new here thanks.

    Try loading it with a dead drive. Basically, some PSUs will go into OVP shutdown without a minimum load on +5v and +12v.

      i tried to load 1 of my hdd but nothing happens,i noticed that 5vdc standby is 6vdc.what cause this standby voltage goes high?

        some units are better off in the trash.
        i would not connect it to anything i cared about.

          Overvoltage on +5Vsb is almost always due to a failed small capacitor on the primary side of the auxiliary flyback supply. Look for a 22-100 uF, 35 - 50v cap near the auxiliary flyback transformer.
