RadioShack 13.8v/3A power supply transistor ID/replacement.

Can anyone suggest a replacement transistor? This 13.8v power supply (RadioShack) blew up on me many years ago and I have been dragging it around knowing someday I would repair it. Well, this weekend I finally got around to popping the cover on it. Blown fuse, replaced. Checked main electrolytic capacitor, suprized that it checked OK. Looks like the power transistor is shorted though. Can't seem to find ANY data on a DVE 312 or a cross reference. This power supply seems to have been common with many other brand names. Any suggestions on a replacement for the DVE 312?

More likely to be 2N3055 but we need to verify if it is NPN for sure.
Need to see how Emitter and the Collector pins are connected.

Measure the voltage on the case of the transistor in respect to the black terminal, you should find 18-20 volts on it.

A 2N3055 OR 2N3772 Should do, if the output is too high then check those two transistors on the main board, sometimes they are taken out by the fail of the 2n3055.

klipsch kda-500 amplifier suitable power supply capacitor replacement ?
          by r2digital
I have a klipsch kda-500 that would turn on and allow me to get into the web management but it was picking up a lot of noise from audio sources so i decided to replace the smd caps on the power supply along with radial one. Some one was in here before me and they basically burned the bottom side of the traces off for the radial cap but i was able to repair it without any real problem. I thought i did a good job sourcing out replacement caps but apparently not and now i can't get the power supply to turn on it just constantly try's to keep turning on. Attached is a picture of the power supply before...

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
          by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
          by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Samsung pn59d530a3f no picture after power supply replacement
          by Goldenmonkey
My samsung plasma pn59d530a3f recently had a loud pop and stopped working. after opening it up, I found a blown resistor and capacitor on the power supply board. The circuit board was damaged where the resistor connects so I opted to buy a replacement board.

after installing the replacement power supply, the tv powers up but has no picture. The electronics store I bought the power supply from said the next likely culprit could be the Y Main board.

Is there a way to test the Y Main board before just buying a replacement? Or if there are other areas I should check?

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
          by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...
