    Line Filtering

    Hi everyone,

I am trying to design a PCB with an IEC input , line filter and AC-DC converter and I need a bit of help with line filters.

100 - 240vac to 15vdc. about 2 amps. All mains components are to be PCB mounted.

I want this device to be EMC compliant but we are not a big company with large budgets for EMC testing. We do aim to have this device (a sensor display) tested but we would prefer to avoid repeat testing. We are looking as BS 61326 (Electrical equipment for measurement, control and laboratory use) So lets begin with the power inlet and PSU...

I have found some IEC inlet connectors with single stage filters, pcb mount filters and various AC-DC converters.

I'd like to know if it is better to have an unfiltered IEC then use a multistage filter after it then off to the ACDC converter or can I use an IEC with a single stage filter then another single or multi stage filter inline after it?

Any thoughts or further info required?

    Cheers, Ben

    Re: Line Filtering

it will depend on the actual psu.
how are you converting mains to 15v?

      Re: Line Filtering

It depends on how bad you switching power supply is, you need to reduce its noise generated by the SMPS from injecting (conductive) back into the power line and radiating.
It is tough without having your own test equipment to do the pre-test (Radiate and Conductive) first, I know the EMC/EMI/CE testing not cheap, we spend hundreds of thousand dollars for the US and EURO products. You can design your own common mode/diff mode filer but it is specialized field, we have our own in-house Engr to do that.
      Example of EMI, EMC reports.

I was going to use a simpler AC to DC converter something like this...

It has some type of line filter built in. Do I need another before this?

It looks like it has been through the compliance testing already by itself, but your product will need be tested as a completed products. The circuit that will be running using this power supply has high frequency Oscillator which will injecting/radiating high frequency?

There is an 18Mhz crystal to clock the PIC. Other than that, nothing else that should act as an oscillator

              Line filter question
              by Dannyx
Good day folks. A while back, I started building a bench power supply (long story - see it here ). I noticed something about the pre-built line filter I wanted to use and it got me thinking whether it's a good idea to use it or not, at least in my particular case.

If you zoom in and look at the schematic on the label, the potential problem I see is the earth terminal connected to L and N via the 2 Y caps. I've seen this setup in virtually all of these and even some SMPS board may have this arrangement (though I'm not sure about this), so it's probably safe overall and makes perfect...

Samsung UN50TU8000FXZC shows thin horizontal green line when warm
              by cubytus
              Hi to all,

I was given this TV, an entry-level 4K 50" set. Some have criticized its lack of contrast and relatively poor colour rendering, but for my needs, it's very decent.

I reset everything to factory settings, but this line keeps on fading in and out when watching a streaming channel from the Tizen firmware. Interestingly, it only happens when TV is warm, after about 1h45 of it being turned on.

Watching a movie from an external source doesn't trigger the line as easily (needs 2 hours), and from a normal viewing distance, is hardly noticeable. It...

              Kogan - KALED65XU9220STB - Blue Vertical Line
              by TrueSword88
              Hi all.

I have a Kogan 65' LCD Panel with a thin blue vertical line (top to bottom) on left hand side of panel.
The line just happens to coincide with the end of COF and start of the next COF (attached).

The line is permanent no matter what I've tried. I've tried pressure testing the panel (top to bottom) and all over, I didn't notice any difference with the line, either temporary or semi-permanent.

Also tried unplugging all flex cables, cleaned with isopropyl then re-inserting to no avail - line remains.

              Hoping to fix...

Running Line Voltage and Integrating LED Pods - Automotive
              by FALKLAN
Howdy everyone! I hope all is well where ever you are!

I'm attempting to integrate a couple of LED pods into an automotive reverse lamp circuit. The problem being, while the vehicle is running there is a 8.5v current present on the reverse lamp power wire. Needless to say is that all LED pods and lights dimly illuminate while the 8.5v is present, so the LEDs are always powered on while the vehicle is running. When the vehicle is shifted into reverse, the voltage changes to 12 volts.

I am uncertain how to convert this line into a switched 12v output line for the LED pods....

              hello,

there is an asus gtx1650 which displays fine in windows but if i run a benchmark test it displays artifacts and the driver crashes after a second or two.

I changed pads and thermal paste.

I run mats test but it is reporting 0 errors.

I then tried to run the mods version 400.271_1650 test, it first ran and stopped with a 'breakpoints limit reached after 5 retries' error and the fans went full speed.

After a reboot, I tried to run the test again, but now the test fails and says "ERROR: Couldn't clear GPU's interrupt...
