    Apple TDK PSU

I accidentally fried the inductor on an Apple LC PSU. Can anyone help me locate a replacement? The only part number visible to me is 290A P15.

    Thanks!

The fried component in the picture is a common mode choke for EMI filtering - they should not be all that hard to get in the right size, but current capacity needs to be considered.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

Didn't mention it was plugged in when I tested and it shifted and 110 touched it. The value and a suitable replacement is what I'm having a hard time with.

ok, what are the dimensions of the choke? and lead spacing? also, what's the incoming line amps (or watts?) written on the PSU?

you could pretend it's a no-name pc supply and replace it with a pair of jump-wires.

The lead spacing is Half inch by 7/16, with the choke not much larger. I've attached a picture of the outside label.

              Thanks!

Looking at the picture, there is also a component that might be a varistor, wich is split in half (or so it looks).
In a transistor circuit protected by a fuse, the transistor will always blow to protect the fuse.

It looks exactly like it, but how do I know which mH and amperage to get?
                      Its approx. 20mm long x 21mm height x 16mm width
                      Lead spacing is 13mm x 10mm

I pointed the suspect component below. Could you check if it's a crack or just paint line..

I think it was just a molding line. I looked again and it looks ok. Any guess on at the mH that I should replace this with?

                              For testing only:

Jump the choke out and make sure the supply still comes up.

Computer booted just fine with it jumpered.

Are you saying that this is a safe replacement and the one to get? Want to be sure before ordering.

Have you considered just rewinding it?

Have never done that before. I'm assuming I'd just be better off picking up a new one.

Is it safe to just leave the jumper wires in place and seal it up? Seems to work just fine.
