    Eaton 5110 UPS fault

    Hi All,
I have an Eaton Powerware 5110/1500VA UPS that I had to replace due to a fault, its been gathering dust for quite a while and I thought I would try to repair it.

The schematic for this model UPS doesn't seem to be available anywhere online, though from what I can see:
The main UPS board is a PC04217-01C, which is using an undocumented 97537CV15 microcontroller (?), and a separate daughter board for spike protection on RJ12 line.

    Main components:
There are two groups of three IRF3205 MOSFETS for the DC -> AC rectification.
An LM324N OP Amp (I believe this is being used to monitor the supply voltage level)
    An LM7812 voltage regulator
    An IR530P power Mosfet
    An IRF3710 Power Mosfet
    An RL1602C rectifier.
    A Cosmo 1010/817 photocoupler (?)
    Two 793-P-1C relays
    One JH1403W relay
A Zettler AZ733W dual pole relay.

Starting with a pair of new batteries the UPS starts up fine, going through its self test routine, with its green LED activating showing it has picked up 240v mains. Switch off the mains power and it alarms immediately, cutting over to battery sourced power, which also seems fine….well it thinks its fine!

The unit has 6 power outlets at rear; three are battery backup outlets, and three surge protection only. Connecting a load shows the battery backup outlets will run fine on battery supplied power when the mains power is disconnected, however when mains power is ON there is actually no power on these 3 outlets whatsoever. Everything else on the unit is operating as per normal, including the filtered 240V on the other 3 outlets.

Looking at the circuit board there are no visible signs of bulging capacitors, and no obvious signs of overheating/burning of any components. My initial thought was it could be a faulty power relay, not switching back properly when the mains 240V is active – or a failure somewhere in the control cct upstream of the relay.

Does anybody out there have a circuit diagram for this model UPS or similar, or any suggestions where to start looking for this fault?

Yeah, after I read your post, I agree, it could be a relay with welded or dirty contacts. Do you hear the click of a relay when it switches power sources? Also, check for cracked solder joints.

Thanks for the reply, when i get some more time I will tear down one of my good 5110s and do a little comparative trouble shooting. Pity nobody out there seems to have a cct diagram.

Yeah, check to see if the relays have any welded contacts, or bad contacts. (open-circuit) (could possibly have a burnt coil, but that isn't a common issue with relays)

Yeah I don't have a circuit diagram for these, but, it IS possible to fix things without a circuit diagram

Also check small caps if you have ESR meter, it is often a problem especially with APC units. If they go bad the driving circuitry may get crazy.

Any good clear pictures of the whole chassis and the boards?

ESR meter came to the rescue again today with a PLC I/O card fault
              by sam_sam_sam
I have been having a fun time at work with two pieces of equipment that had shorted components or shorted component cables to machine frame
I would check what my multi meter was telling me about how many ohms I getting with the multi meter was telling versus the ESR was telling me about weather or not it really was a short to machine ground or not

One note at first we thought that it might be a bad I/O card or a malfunction PLC including me as well but I thought I would try and see if removing the I/O cables would make a difference or not and this time it did make a difference...

Strange fault on Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen. 2
              by cazi1001
              Hello,
              I have a strange fault with a Lenovo ThinkPad E14 G2 (Board No. NM-D011 Rev. 1.0).

The first Problem, which I fixed already, was a dead TPS65944AD (USB Type-C) controller. After I fixed this fault, all functions working fine and the notebook run very well with the charger and battery.
On the next day, I tied to start the notebook with the battery, but nothing happened. I started with the charger and on windows, I saw, that the battery was empty. And this was nearly impossible, because the battery was charged. I disconnected the battery and found out, that the board...

i have 2 Huawei Matebook D14 NBB-WAH9Q with the same fault (errors on RAM chips)
              by Bartoloni
looking at the motherboard there are 2 different sets of 4chip ram ( 4+4 ) and seems 2 different BANKS...
disabling 1 of the bank can solve the issue )leaving the laptop with only 4gb .. but working)

tried to find schematics but i have found nothing.
also no youtube video about this fault ( strange... 2 units with the same problem .. i was thinking is a common fault like RAM on ASUS X550)

              any hints?
              thank you in advance.

the board is DAH98NMB8C0 rev C HF

lenovo flex 5 14ITL05 bios and motherboard fault
              by claws77
my laptop is lenovo flex 5 14ITL05

recently my power supply for this laptop developed a fault.
which caused a short in my usb c port -- verified with a new charger.

rant: so, i went to the repair tech in my country, he asked for a huge repair cost when i decided to get it done someplace else this "great person" nicked my bios chip, asked me to be aware for repair scams lol.
I was stupid and unable to find the flaw at the moment. Another repair tech told me that my bios chip was stolen and an 8mb bios chip is in place of that. he told me that a 32...

              Panasonic SA-MAX770PU SMPSU board fault....
              by Rictech
              Hello everyone. 😀

As per thread title, this unit has a serious SMPSU fault. It blows F1001, which is a 10A M205 in the phase from the mains input.
Very first thing I tried, was simply replacing the fuse, but the replacement ceramic fuse blew immediately.

Looking at the schematic for this PSU, I then removed what I thought was the next likely candidate: D1001 - the HV main bridge rectifier.
This isolated the fault(no longer blows the main fuse), but does not point me to the actual fault.
There are no devices that have exploded or otherwise show signs...
