Ok so I dont know - others hopefully will - but I think what you have there is
an electronic ballast/starter for a fluorescent lamp.
It could be 24v but if the man had it running on 230v that could be right also.
Have a look at this - tells how to build one (for 110vac ) but says what to change to make it 230vac
    http://homemadecircuitsandschematics...watt-tube.html
I dont know much about circuits but budm and the others may help.

        nasty,
if it's for driving a tube it will have a very high voltage startup followed by a current regulated constant drive.

anybody got schems for an electronic flourescent starter while on the subject?

But there is only 50V caps on primary side , also when i read the sticker under the PCB there is 36 v to 42 v 55w on it.

i cant explain that, i just know how flourescent tubes work.

you need an arc to get them started, then you need to regulate the current or they will destroy themselves.
only other way is to use 4 wires to power the tube heaters.

Can we see the whole bottom side of the board?
BTW, so this board is removed from inside the lamp assembly as shown in the PDF catalog?
Can we see the lamp assembly?

Hi stj - did you see my post at the top of this page there is a link on how to build one with a board layout board showing the tracks and parts list?

no, that's a ballast, i just want to replace the traditional starter,
like the pulse-starters you can get in shops.

The PDF file includes PSUs with 24 Vac supply , witch confirmes the writing on the sticker 36-42v 55W .

When i was giving it 230 volts the starter resistors where burning slowly , the caps also were getting hot .

I wonder how those caps are still alive and they are apparently of bad quality .

i see how that wrorks now - pretty simple but nice design.
i suspect the 42v input is for use on a ship or plane.

the output is going to be over 300v at probably over 50khz ac.

But 42 v is the output of this PSU , 24 V ac is the input .

This PSU is outputting two 42 v to be connected to the CFL . (AFAIK)

If you have it I think budm was wanting a picture of the next part of the puzzle the bulb connector so he can see how the bulb is wired through to this board. Do you have access to a bulb - does it say on it what voltage/ wattage it is.

                            No problem .

Tomorrow i will meet the guy who gave me this and ask him for more details.

                              it's not 24v input, it's a custom 42v input.
the output is hundreds of v to drive a tube.

and because you put 230v into it, i'd be worried about a lot of parts including the 2 large caps, the zener diode marked 15v and the 2 small transistors that drive the fets.

Sorry , am getting a little confused here .

Do you mean that this psu outputs 42 volts to another device that energizes the cfls up to 300 V ?

As for that mistake , the guy insisted that he was powering it up with 230 , maybe he was using a transformer to step it down to 24 for the smps then using this 42 output for another device that lights up the cfls.

I believe this unit takes 24V (If you look at the GIMAX catalog, they make the unit that will take 12V, 24V, and 230V).
230V feeding into the unit probably damaged lots of components by now.
If you look at the output terminals, you will see that the filament of lamps are connected in series with that big gray cap, so it is filament type start up.
BTW, I found this web site for the CFL circuits.

                                            by corrize
Hello, I disassembled this dead camera, and found this WTF… Two fuses soldered one above the other !
I was pretty sure nobody touched it before, but that can't be from factory. There is flux, and capacitor is probably missing.
                                            The other weird thing : the fuses are « G » fuse : (0.75A – 8V), seems very low. The original fuse should be « O » : (32V 2,5A).
There is « O » mark beside. All fuses have the same mark letter on main board. So, I can deduce it's a « O » fuse.
And this correspond to the issus I saw : when I plug the battery, I measure the voltage dropping...

Hi I wonder if anyone might be able to steer me in the right direction. I have this Samsung UE46ES8000 TV and it went bang during use. The main fuse on the PSU board is open. I've checked every diode/mosfet/transistor I can see and nothing appears to be short to cause the fuse to go. The DC output of the bridge rectifier is not short either. I've seen online that some of these models are known for having their PFC mosfet or other mosfets shorting and blowing the fuse but i'm not seeing that here. If anyone aware of these models having any issues to cause this? I'm reluctant to just replace the...

Help replacing fuse on my Mimaki CJV300-160 vinyl printer
                                            by jshhh
                                            Hi guys,

I'm inexperienced with electronics repairs, I've done a little bit of soldering caps and whatnot, but i have a blown fuse on this mimaki printer I got which I have bought a replacement for.

How do I remove this type of fuse (see picture)...it kinda looks like it would pull out of that bracket but it didn't come at first pull and I didn't want to brute force it incase it's soldered on there like most of the rest of the components.

Anybody know how to remove this type of fuse?

(The fuse is toward the bottom of the image labeled F2)...

Argon SA1 audio amplifier power-supply - fuse blown after fixing the short?
                                            by Babbar
I found a project in the electronics trash yesterday. A nice Argon SA1 audio amp with some electrical issue. Took it apart and saw that the 4A250V fuse was blown so started lifting components to find the short. Eventually got to two MOSFETs (model FTA14N50C) that are shorted and when i took them out the short was gone.

Now i didn't have any replacements of the same model of course but i found a couple with pretty similar spec i thought (K10A60D & K12A50D) and put them in. Also replaced the blown fuse with a 3.5A250V one. Checked another time for short circuit and plugged it in....
